Has anyone done a comparison to x-plan versus true car pricing to determine what gets you the best deal? I can use true car through USAA or I can do X plan through Mustang club of America.
thanks!

I just re read your post. USAA I think has special incentives such as $1000 or $500 off on top of TrueCar that's why it makes it cheaper than X plan.

Some cars even have $3000 off on top of TrueCar...I think that was on the holidays and for luxury cars.
Wish I would have looked at USAA when I purchased, but I still got an OK deal, X-plan pricing (not actually using X plan) and $1000 rebates.

The x-plan keeps the dealer from adding lot fees as well. Good luck getting them to omit them without being forced by the x-plan.

This. Without x-plan they will attempt to tack on every fee known to man. :headbonk:

If anyone has access to the x-plan pricing an wants to compare this is a ruby red GT Premium with performance package and all weather floor mats with no rebates. Zip code is 07840 if that's needed with x-plan.

I come up with $37,734 - that includes the $825 Destination charge.

Works out like this:

Starting X-Plan: $34,210
Ruby Red: $357
Performance Pack: $2,255
A/W Mats: $86
Destination Fee: $825

(I think there is some "rounding error" in that calculation. When you add those items up it comes out to $1 less than the total shown, but that is the way that it shows up on the X-Plan site)

The two important things to note are that the Destination Fee is already included in this, and that X-Plan limits the (sometimes shady) "Documentation Fees" to a maximum of $100. Make sure when you are using that TrueCar price that you are comparing apples to apples in those respects.

When I run TrueCar through my USAA account (with your ZIP code), I come up with a TrueCar price of $37,748 - which excludes an available $500 incentive, and includes Destination Fee ($825) and a "Regional Fee" of $871

To me, it looks like a wash, other than the issue of Doc Fees. If they are reasonable under TrueCar, then it probably isn't worth stressing over a difference of less than $15.

Another thing to consider is that some dealers won't let you use X-Plan on cars that they already have on the lot - only for ordered cars. Depending on your plan, that might be a factor as well.

Good luck!
