Steering Wheel Counterweight

I was swapping steering wheels and wondering if the counterweight is really needed.

I wouldn't mind more road feel...I might just leave it off and see how it drives.

I've wondered the same thing and, knowing how cheap Ford is, why would they spend the extra money and labor for an add-on piece that's rubber isolated? These cars have adjustable electric power steering so I don't see how adding weight would be necessary for proper "feel" so, maybe there is an NVH reason behind the rubber isolated mass so close to the center?

It’s a bit of a stretch, but right up to job 1 production they were chasing vibrations in the steering wheel. Could be related.
