TL;DR : Left Fog lamp housing kicked out by deer (lights still work, connected still), left edge of bumper that meets quarter panel pushed out a bit, some small minor scratches. Also the left headlight is slightly loose. Nowhere near as bad as it could have been.

So I had just gotten off work, decided to de-stress a little and drive along some back roads. All went well for about 45 minutes. Just me, Mustang and some music.

I did a big loop and took the highway to get home. There was a fair amount of traffic for 11:30 at night; The Flow was around 70 mph.

I was just sitting there relaxing, thinking about how nice the highway was and how great my car felt. I sort of zone out, but not before out of the corner of my left eye I see not 1, but 5 deer just standing on the left side of the highway.

My foot just barely starts touching the brake when I see the first one sprint across the road a couple hundred feet in front of me. The guy in front of me slams on his brake and nails that one. Right after that, Deer number 2 decides it's his turn to cross the road. Right in front of me!

I brake hard and start turning left (in hopes he will sprint full speed across the lanes, so I will be turning where he won't be). Of course the dumb bastard deer decides to have a change of heart, and tries to turn around.

The left front of my car smacks into his rear at about 45-50 mph . I knock over the deer, and the vermin gets right back up and starts galloping away.

I pulled over seething with anger. I didn't even want to look at my car.

Eventually I did, and I got extremely lucky. I'm guessing when I hit the deer he spazzed out and kicked with his rear legs...right into my left fog lamp. So my cars first battle scars, at 4300 miles. It could have been worse for sure. Up the road I saw a deer lying on the side of the road and a large amount of guts on the other side. Will be taking her to the shop Monday...shouldn't be too bad.

Deer... sometimes I think they are the dumbest creatures on the planet. After the first deer got destroyed the next one must have been thinking "Hey that looks like fun!"

Not sure. As you know, when these things happen they happen extremely quick. The last I saw of him was him getting up and running away. However, I drove down the spot where it happened yesterday and did see one had been claimed on the side of the road.

That sucks! I'm so sorry, man. I've never seen a deer before, that's got to be awful to just have them run in front of the road like that. At least the damage looks fixable... Ugh, that sucks!

Looks pretty lucky. I almost hit one yesterday but thankfully I got the big brakes! Upped my braking G-meter from .87 to 1.25! :D

At least you didn't swerve to miss the deer and take out a family of five! Last fall I was riding with a friend when a squirrel ran out into the road. He swerved into on-coming traffic. We just missed an SUV by a hair. I yelled at him, wanting to know what his was thinking! He said he didn't want to kill a defenseless creature. So he was willing to kill five people for a rodent!

We've totalled a Stage3 Roush (S197) from a deer strike in N.W. Texas. It was not fun.

This is the reason I park my motorcycle after dark around here. Seen too many deer after dark on the side of the road. Plus I lost a friend in 2010 on a bike due to a deer strike in Colorado.

Get out of the concrete jungle and live a little. ;)

I have them in my yard on a weekly basis. :D

Sorry to the OP as well. Totalled my first car 79 Nova on a deer collision with a big buck during the rut on a dark drizzly night over a hill. These things happen out here in rural America, a part of life.

AMEN TO THAT! Cities are So overrated. I spent 36 years in one. Out here, we get Deer strolling through our back yard daily, look up and see bald Eagles, there is absolutely nothing like it.

My son and I just saw a Bald Eagle yesterday. I've also had one land in a tree in my yard as well. :D

Different strokes for different folks but I'll never be a city boy. :) Nothing wrong with it just isn't for me. My roadkill list includes a deer, raccoons, rabbits, squirrels, quail, possum, turtles, frogs and countless other small birds. All unfortunate but a fact of life in rural areas. These are all just unavoidable as I never go out of my way to hit them and try to miss them if possible. I backed over a large box turtle that crawled into my garage and behind my rear tire just this last summer. What a mess.

I've seen roadkill skunks, beaver, muskrat, turkey and even armadillo in my area. Had to chuck a dead grey squirrel on my burn pile yesterday that was laying dead in my yard. Critter central. :eyebulge:

Yeah, I have deer strolling through my back yard daily - sometimes they'll even be in the front yard. Foxes, gray (and black) squirrels, raccoons, hawks, owls and the occasional golden eagle show up too. But I'm way out there... almost 600 feet from Washington, DC.
