So I have ordered a gt500 hood from cervini but since the wait is so long im starting to wonder if I chose the right hood to begin with.

With that said, please comment gt500 hood or cobra r hood.

My car is the one with stripes on it, the other cars are just random pictures I found online of other velocity blue mustangs with the gt500 hood and the cobra r hood.

Here’s mine. Cervini does a pretty good job painting it if you go that route. They matched my Deep Impact Blue perfectly.

I vote Cobra R. It would be nice for heat extraction if the back is open like on Beefcake’s car here.

That looks like it blocks your view quite a bit. You know how on a hot day and the ac is going and sometimes the windows fog up like crazy? I wonder how all the heat directed right at the windshield would affect the ac?

It wouldn’t be a problem for me, as I deleted my AC to make room for forward facing turbo headers. I believe Beefcake is still running AC though.

Is this purely for aesthetics or is there any performance goal?

GT500 hood probably provides a bit of aero and improved cooling through the hood vents/louvers.

I actually ended up calling cervinis. They said while the gt500 hood does allow more heat out than the cobra r, the cobra r still lets more heat out compared to stock and is lighter than the gt500 hood.

Did you happen to ask them whether hood locks were necessary with either hood? I recall reading a while back that hood locks might be necessary to keep the hood from lifting during high MPH runs.

Yes I asked them. They said hood pins are not needed.

With the mods you've already done, my pick is the GT500. That hood stays true (er) to the original body lines, which to my eye do not need to be changed unless there's a functional reason.

Not on your list is the Shelby Hertz hood, which is my favorite of all. I only mention it in case you haven't seen one.

Oh yeah I’ve seen the Shelby hertz hood, it’s by far my favorite hood for our cars. But it’s also $1200 more than the cobra r hood and not worth that kinda money in my opinion. With tax and shipping that hood is like $2500 unpainted.

I've had several Cobra R hoods, they fit perfectly and are light weight. Plus it give that aggressive look that grabs peoples attention. I'm planning on putting one on my 2016 vert. Everyone else seems to be throwing the GT500 or GTD hoods on. At the end of the day, you gotta do what makes you feel good about looking at it, but keep your original hood too. You never know when you might want to revert back to original. Also check locally for paint as it is usually lower cost than purchasing the hood already painted.
