How many speeding tickets have you gotten? Were the officers aggressive or being rude?

Hmmm. At least 25, I used to get three a year for many years and insurance companies have SR22 filing, basically risk insurance and I was on that for ten years because of speeding tickets. In Minnesota if you get three a year it is a court appearance on the last one. I told the judge that I would gladly pay them $50.00 a month if they just let me drive as fast as I want, LOL, needless to say that did not go over well. I waited to say it until he had already given the fine. He responded with an angry sneer and pointed at the door, as to say GET OUT. I got out of 10 more tickets by out running the cops, it was fun back then, now it is jail time, No sense of humor. Only one was in my Mustang. A few years ago, I got one for 103 mph in a 65 mph on my motorcycle. he tagged me as I was slowing down. I lost my license for 6 months and $385.00 dollar fine. When I got home, I tossed the ticket on the table, my wife saw it and asked "does that really say 103" I told her yes but at least I was slowing down when he tagged me. She said I hope it was worth it. Well $385.00 and it had been 20 years from the last ticket; that's less than $20.00 a year. I can live with that. Last year Minnesota took in 9.5 million dollars just in speeding tickets. No, they weren't all mine. I think they should just issue a stupid sticker to those that like to drive fast at a cost of $50.00 a month and if you get pulled over, just flash your stupid sticker and get on with your day. Look at the money saved on fines and insurance, the states still get the income that they care so much about and if you are the cause of an accident, you are still held responsible for your actions. The only one that loses is the insurance Co.

lol, you gotta work on that inner monologuešŸ™Š

i get it…also grew up in minnesnowda and collected my share of tickets in the land of 1,000 lakes, and 55mph.

funny story…back in the early 90s I had to apply to upgrade my clearance for the military, so a call to the MN DMV was in order. The nice lady brought up my record and said ā€œoh my goodness, you were a busy little squirrel, werentchaā€œ then I hear a series of keyboard clacking and she erased EVERYTHING with a quick ā€œthank you for your serviceā€ā€¦shortly thereafter, military clearance was issued with nary a word šŸ˜‚

I recommend fighting every ticket if you can. I have beat lots of tickets for dumb reasons. Cop not turning in paperwork, wrong traffic code on ticket, radar calibration, cop losing sight of me, ticket not turned in on time. But if you just pay the ticket none of this matters

I got a few when I started driving but by 30 I stopped getting them. I’ve only gotten one since then and it was in my s550. It wasn’t me speeding but the cop wouldn’t even consider that he was wrong. I know the attitude. I was a cop for a few years and to think I made a mistake was inconceivable. But I got a 52 in a 40 for a guy in a white Toyota Corolla. I don’t drive my Mustang in a way to warrant attention while I’m in town or around other cars.

I agree, a lot of attorneys have standard or fixed rates for traffic tickets, it's way cheaper than insurance for a year and you have a pretty good chance of having it cleaned up.

I'm about a once every 18 months type guy. I've been treated very professionally...all the way to insane cops power tripping, guns pointed, civil rights violated, etc, etc. The worst I've ever been treated was a 5ft tall 90lb female cop with something to prove.

I say, get a good radar detector, a dash cam, be polite, fight every ticket!

The worst ticket I ever got was in my 40s in a minivan, lol. I was driving home fairly late at night on the expressway. Nobody was on the road and I said to myself, "I've never seen what this thing can do," so I punched it. When it hit about 95-100 I thought ok I better stop messing around before I get a ticket. As I coasted back down to normal speed I saw a cop. I hit the brakes and hoped he didn't get me but also wondered at what speed he got me if he did. Ended up 82 in a 60. It could have been worse since I had it over 95. Because it was more than 20 over the limit I had no option to take defensive driving and keep it off my record.

I speed a lot more in my Mustangs, which I've owned the last 8 years, but I've been lucky not to get any tickets. Fortunately there aren't many cops on the back roads where I'm more inclined to speed. A few weeks ago a group of us went on a 100 mile back road cruise driving 75-85 on 55-60 mph limit two lane roads (with a couple quick punches up to 105-110 on smooth straights). We only encountered one cop in a small town when we were driving the speed limit.

My radar detector has saved me a few times, usually on the expressways in the DFW metro area where I live, so I'm more careful there.

Buddy and I were 'racing', cop lit us up and pulled him over, I kept going....parked my car at a club and went inside for a bit, watched the cops drive around the parking lot looking for me....went home at 2am, and then about an hour after that the cops showed up. Said my buddy was in jail but just gave me a ticket :giggle:

None in recent history since Waze eliminates 90% to 95% of the probability. You simply have to hope you don't speed past them before someone else has reported them.

I've gotten two in the Mustang within the past year already. Haven't had one prior to these in the past 15 years or so, lol. Both instances were the same situation, pass somebody on a two-lane road and an LEO going the other way just happens to show up around the next corner. Both times I completed the pass and was returning to my typical 8-9 over, but not in time.

Nothing a radar detector, waze, or google would have helped me avoid. Just unlucky.

That sucks. I always speed temporarily when passing on 2 lane roads. It's safer to get around the other vehicle more quickly. And more fun, but that's not relevant, lol. Definitely bad luck to have that happen twice!

A radar detector would have told you the Leo was headed your way long before he got you so you could slow down faster or wait until he passed

I thought about it but it’s my first speeding ticket , so I’ll end up doing trafffic school and the ticket won’t affect me or my insurance.
