I have a T-shirt an a sticker for the Mustang and the Jeep. Does that make me a member? Only two of my cars have been a manual. The F-250 and the '96 STS it replaced.

It's not a real club, it's a company making money off of people who feel the need to scream who they are and what they like at everyone.

And it's pretentious to boot. You aren't special for having a manual and that's what being in this society is implying, that' you're special because of your purchase.

We all have eyes and ears, we can tell you drive a manual without reading a t-shirt.

I'd say you should get kicked out of the society anyway, since you got automatic vehicle(s).

Here’s another potentially unpopular opinion: for everyday commuting and general traffic, traditional gas powered vehicles should continue to fade over time. I think internal combustion engines still have a strong place in purpose built vehicles such as sports cars where the driving feel, character, and engine sound are part of the appeal, as well as commercial trucks that need the range and capability to get work done efficiently.

For the average family SUV or minivan however, it’s becoming harder to justify relying on an engine that burns fuel when alternative technologies can accomplish the same task more efficiently. Nobody buys a Toyota Corolla for the engine sound or the feel of the car... (although some might argue that a few do buy it for the engine since it is so darn reliable). Perhaps a bad example, but think about the Ford Explorer or similar vehicles in that segment. Few buyers in that segment about the powertrain, most buyers simply need the utility for families, space, safety, technology and to get from point A to point B. In my view, it makes sense to reserve those gas resources for applications where they provide a unique benefit while embracing technology to allow more commuter vehicles to transition toward cleaner and more efficient options.

I agree with this 100%. It makes little sense to keep pushing average ICE cars instead of seeking out more efficient alternatives. Keep gasoline for specialty vehicles. Even though evs accelerate faster, the character of these vehicles seems lacking (albeit I feel that there are no affordable sports cars that are ev only, as far as I can tell).

All that said, I am not a member of the manual society, but all of my vehicles have been manual transmission, and will be so for as long as possible.
