Just started yesterday after oil change. 40k miles, never had the tick consistently before (it’s shown up very rarely, like 2-3 times in my time owning the car). Now it’s got the tick, but i was under the impression that it doesn’t increase with RPM, which this noise does. At least I think it’s the same noise. It could be 2 different noises and I’m just not able to tell. What do you think? It also has a Roush catback.

I don't know if it's necessarily bad, but mine does this too and I just assumed it was coyote tick. Popped up immediately after an oil change.. 500 miles or so later its quieted down a bit but still there

Hmmm interesting. Is yours a gen 2 or gen 3?

Only reason I ask is it’s way more common on gen 3s. Anyone else reading with the coyote tick…. Does yours still happen at a faster rate up to about 1700rpm? Just did a bunch of testing with it, it basically is nonexistent after 1700rpm. But until then, it does get faster. As shown in the video.

That is 100 percent the coyote "tick". Like mentioned though it's way more common on gen 3 cars. I've actually never heard in person a gen 1 or 2 car do it, only in a video like yours.

That makes me feel better. What was scaring me was that it gets faster up to about 1700 where it stops. I wasn’t concerned hearing it at idle, but my understanding was it ONLY happens at idle. I’ll throw some ceratec in it tomorrow.

Not to start the great oil debate but, what oil brand and viscosity are you using and at what intervals are you changing it?

Sure sounds like the Coyote tick. Like the guy above said, Ceratec. Pick up a bottle, and add it to the oil. If it is indeed the Coyote tick, more than likely it will go away immediately. Happened to me after i did the first oil change. Now i add one bottle of Ceratec with each oil swap.

Mobil 1 full synthetic every 5k miles. Though today I added ceratec and it worked like a charm. Only like 1/3 a bottle.

I might just add Ceratec. Since 2014 I have tried to ignore the harmless sound but its a little annoying. I only like to hear a tick when I am starting the BBQ.
