I got the manifold on and everything seems correct. After connecting the charge pipe I don’t think it actually looks good on the car. Perhaps it’s too glossy in a world of satin colors. Perhaps it’s the 3x3 weave against the 2x2 weave carbon radiator cover. Either way I think it looks like shit, and the CF is being deleted from under the hood.

I had some questions about my new cams/springs/guides and had called GSC a few times and left messages looking to talk to someone. For some reason, I never got a call back. So I stopped calling and decided to take a different approach. I decided to take a road trip to South Carolina and knock on the door. Initially they seemed rather freaked out that I just stopped by, but after a few minutes in the waiting room, Chris came out and sat down with me. What a wealth of camshaft/valvetrain information. A former engineer at Chrysler, and extremely knowledgeable about the coyote valvetrain. We discussed just about every part of the valvetrain and his observations and testing. Was really cool of him to spend the better part of an hour with me answering all my questions. Also sent me all the information I need to get the VVT to work properly in my new engine. I won’t hesitate to buy their stuff in the future.

Jake, it was great meeting and talking with you. Our apologies at our surprise to your visit - we just don't have many guys local to us who are aware of what goes on inside our walls. We're in a corner of the country that, while it can be a destination, isn't on the way to anywhere. To be here, you have to want to come here.

I enjoyed answering your questions, and I'm sorry we missed your calls. Most of the questions about our Coyote line get handed to me, so you got to the right guy in the end.

When more questions come up, I'm here and eager to help.

Speaking of great vendors, I was able to talk to David at LASleeve. He answered all my questions and was very knowledgeable. I have done Darton sleeves in the past, but I liked that LA sources all their ductile iron from America and they do all their machining in house.

Fortunately I was able to find some off the shelf pistons in stock that fit the bill. A 1.6 dome piston from JE will put me between 10.6 and 10.9:1, depending on what the heads CC after the port work. They are currently getting the seats touched up and the throats opened, so I won't know for sure til I get the valves back in. So my guess is they are not 55cc as stock but I really doubt they will be over 59cc. They come with 0.230" wall Tool Steel wrist pins so I think they will handle way more than I will throw at them.

Also got some Cerakoting done and the timing chain cover deburred. I was shocked that a brand new cover had so many chunks of sharp aluminum that protruded from the inside surface. I went over that with abrasive nylon wheels til everything was smooth. Everything had to be masked off so aluminum oxide wouldn’t get inside the oil areas. After coating and a couple day cure, everything went back into the ultrasonic with fresh cleaner for a final douching. Water pump and GT500 Oil Filter Assembly are done. I also made billet plugs for the oil cooler ports. I just need to make a retention plate to keep the plugs in. I will say AI has made part design so much easier. I gave it the bore dimensions, and it spit out plug dimensions, groove width and depth for 25-30% O-ring compression and even the part number for the correct Viton o-ring. Saves a ton of math and time for sure.

So the block is deburred and at the machine shop. So they are currently sleeving the block, line honing it with ARP studs. balancing the rotating assembly, and will finish bore to 3.661” with the latest Rottler CNC hone that was developed with the help of Total Seal. Can’t wait to see the new way of honing cylinders in person.

This is gonna be killer! The things you do to your car are like a mystery and a surprise. I can’t wait to see it all come together.

If you don’t have a pilots license yet, you might need one, as I sense big boy power on the horizon. Heck, this might be the first 2023 TT GT that needs wings, 🤣.

What types of aircraft have you flown over the course of those 30 years? I used to enjoy going to the airport and watching the commercial jets take off and land. I had a really good observation spot for years, until one day, an airport police officer put an end to it and told me that I couldn’t watch from that location anymore.

lol, whatever pays the best day rate…Hawkers, Falcons, and Citations but I enjoy a Beechcraft oft-forgotten carbon fiber jet more than I should 😉

but let’s talk about this little wonder right here…

…who in their right mind spends that kind of time and attention to the INSIDE of the timing chain cover 🫠

It‘s pretty ain’t it 😆? I certainly understand where he’s coming from. I’ve done and/or will do things similar to that myself as long as I find myself feeling like something can be improved. It only has to make sense to the person doing the work.

I use that same joke, but with cross-fit guys and vegans.

Who makes it to page 17 of this thread and still expects “right mind” activities… 😂

Block still isn’t done but supposedly this week. He did cut the seats on the heads and balance the rotating assembly. One good thing about the Callies crank is the 2 giant slugs of Mallory definitely set it up for a heavy rod/piston setup. They had to take weight out of the crank.

Masking off the heads was more work than de-burring the front cover. I am trying to have the motor stay alive but also stop it from looking like shit over time. So the heads got coated in the same Cerakote as the other motor parts. Put the new valves back in, along with the GAC conical spring/titanium retainer kit, GSC valve seals and some MMR locks. Also swapped out all the tower bolts with ARP, and matched the fuel pump lifter cap bolts with some ARPs too.
