Again - it all makes no sense. Bigger brakes ? Because of autobahn ? And how may more countries have highways with no speed limits - like _some_ of them in Germany ? Everybody got hung up with autobahns, most if not all other countries do have speed limits on their highway and difference to US speed limits is essentially irrelevant.

At the end, could care less, everybody can but whatever he/she wants and in Europe there isn't really a choice, just bring on some explanation that make at least little engineering sense.

Btw - I lived in Europe and drove on their highways for almost 30 years. Picked wrong person to teach about autobahns...
That the unlimited stretches of the autobahn exist at all is reason enough for Ford to give all of their European-export trims equipment suitable for whatever speed they are capable of attaining. What does TUV require for imports to the German market?

Yep; if somebody REALLY wants a PP Auto car, they can import a European model.
I guess you're technically correct my Goodfellas friend! You get the papers, get the papers. On the other hand, I'm sure plenty of Auto guys will be adding a set of aftermarket springs, sway bars and braces to match or possibly even outperform the factory Performance Package on the handling front. Some PP owners have been discussing improvements by adding their own suspension components. Those 6 piston brakes can be bought. I could be mistaken but about the only thing from the Performance Package that one would have difficulty doing in the aftermarket would be the Gauge Pack in the dash. Even that can be bought, albeit for $1500, but its possible.

I'm of the opinion that Auto guys can have just about everything the factory Performance Package has - although it'll cost a HELL of a lot more than $2500!

The 50th Anniversary Limited Edition cars all came with the Performance Package; about half of the 1964-car-run were automatics (the stats are in the threads in the LE forums). Those are the only automatic PP cars sold in the U.S.

It just occurred to me that all Stangs without PP have all-weather tires. They are not illegal but we do NOT use them. We always have adequatly speed rated summer tires and if you want to drive your car during winter mos; you need winter tires on separate rims.

Just for the info, the PP in Euorpe does NOT include the two gauges on the instrument panel (unfortunately).
Also if you order the manual with PP, you only get the 3:55 rear end on GT; no 3:78 (or is it 76).
So if you want a manual GT with 3:78 rear, you have to direct import a car with U.S. specs at a higher price.

Search turned up nothing. I've been reading the forums for days and finally had a question I couldn't find the answer to.

Why is the performance pack only an option on the manual gt? I'm looking at the gt premium in auto. Just curious. The performance pack is something I really want, but didn't really want a manual car. Personal preference, plus the auto has remote start.

Anyway, thanks for any insight.

Matt
Not really sure, but the Brembos are designed to handle a track with corners and that's a good place for a manual transmission.

If you want an automatic, no reason to get the PP. The standard brakes are fine, the standard GT suspension is fine for driving around town. The automatic and standard suspension are good for 1/4 mile tracks. The stiffer PP suspension will slow the car down in the 1/4 mile.

Like I said, I don't know Ford's logic, but those are some guesses.
