so far, the biggest bitch I have about my new to me 2021 Ecoboost convertible is the transmission.

(Don’t tell me i shoulda got a stick.. i searched for months for a vert stick and it was infuriating for many reasons so I bought a nice auto when it came available if only to stop the constant obsessing!)

I generally drive it is sport mode, but thats a PITA when there’s lots of stop lights and signs…,

I live in a hilly area and I hate the way the trans shifts to a higher gear and drops the RPMs to 1500 at its slightest whim, I’m constantly hitting the down shift paddle when the car is in normal, a little less in sport plus. Largely because is just takes to long to shift on its own.

I like sport mode, but sometimes i just wanna sit there, pick my nose, listen to KMFDM and drive!!!!!!

I wish there was a full automatic mode that shifted less harsh than Sport +, forgot about 9th and 10th gear 75% of the time and didn’t have that stupid enhanced engine sound kicked up. (I don’t mind it in sport mode, but in sport + and track, its just too much).

I’m not really interested to much in engine tuning just yet, it’s got plenty of power, maybe it could be a bit quicker to build it, but it’s not my main concern!

I’m really considering buying a tuner, but want to make sure that its the right move for what I want to do.

I had so many issues with my 10R80 I was about to get rid of this car. Took it in several times for very harsh downshifts and wonky shifting. The dealer replaced a few parts - but it made little to no difference.

But then, I got the Ford Performance tune - which not only gave a bump in power, but also reprogramed the transmission. NOW the transmission is pretty good. Still not perfect, but I am much happier with it now. 99% of the erratic behavior is gone. It behaves as I believe an automatic transmission should behave. I just feel that the stock tune has something fundamentally wrong with its transmission programing.

Even in Sport, and Sport+ I feel like its short shifting more than what I would want it to. I like how it holds the gears longer, getting a little higher in the RPM before shifting in Track mode - but I don't like how track mode downshifts.

if i'm cruising i left the gear shift in "D", if i need to rapidly change speed i pull it back to "S" so it doesn't take a ton of throttle input to downshift. it's easy to bump it back and forth between the two.

Op if that’s your issue it can be fixed very easily using Pcmtec or hptuners, except the part about the sound.

I wasted $400 on hardware and custom tune from famous "R" tuner person got ghosted after 3 poor revisions.

I dumped the car couple weeks ago for twin turbo 2.7 Bronco that shifts properly.

Always very harsch downshifts with this type of transmission, one on my ecoboost was replaced due to overheating issues and not able to find 10th gear.

Is the ford performance tune done at the dealer?

Yes that one. An APPROVED dealer has to do it if you want to keep your warranty. Some dealers are not approved and or unwilling to do it. But you could do it at home if you really wanted to - it would just void any warranty you have left (if any)

Some thing that I find helps the shifting is a TPS calibration:

1. Turn your ignition on, but do not start the truck.
2. Now push the throttle pedal SLOWLY in it's full arc from no throttle to flat to the floor. Be steady. It should take you about 10 seconds or more.
3. Quickly release the pedal as soon as you hit the floor.
4. Turn your ignition off.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 two more times and then start the truck.

Had an Ecoboost F150 that would just get downright sloppy without a regular calibration.
Here lately I do it every two weeks/when I realize it's time

I'd like to know how it was installed. Did you have a dealer do it or did you install the kit yourself? I'm asking because I have a Ingen CAI that's way nicer than the K&N the kit gives you, but I want that throttle body plus keeping my warranty for now. thanks for any feedback.

I took matter in my own hands as I didnt like what mine was doing. I started with PCMtec and with the help of a few members I was able to eliminate all of the troublesome characteristics. I have HP tuner as well. Its a bit easier to navigate as its more icon based, but I have numerous connection issues with the MVPI3 interface. It seems everytime windows does an update I have problems. PCMtec is less expensive and works everytime. Just takes some getting used to.
