I have noticed many people wanting suggestions on cheap tires. This blows my mind. Especially the people that have dropped $5k+ on power mods just to cheap out on tires.
What am I missing here? Am I in the minority? Tires are the one thing I won’t cheap out on.
I have not modified my GT in anyway to make more power. I honestly can’t afford it at the moment with the added upkeep. I guess I’d rather save my money for good tires and maintenance than a super charger.

I am guilty of this as I usually go with Michelin PS4s, but this time around I went with the cheaper Continental ECS02 and they are absolutely incredible for the price.

People are cheap

Tires are expensive

Most people are not driving their cars to the point where they need 'super good tire'

$90 Landsails seem a lot better buy than $300 Michelins, especially when you have to buy 4 and pay for mounting+balancing.

But putting those $100 chinese tires on should be crime

I think its just post COVID sticker shock. People are still having a hard time adjusting. Also this is a mustang forum and everyone wants bigger tires but maybe they upsized their tires and didn't think about the increased $$$ of consumables.

Well….. my car is a commuter / fun car.

I don’t have a need to spend $300 each on tires on it because I’m not racing it or even pushing it much. (Once in a while ill take some twistys in the mountains around here but mostly just cruisin)

THAT BEING SAID….

OH MY GOD…. I wish i would have noticed the “ whoflungpoos” (mismatched front and rear at that!!!) that are one it….

the fronts are “Mavis” all season touring, which don’t seem to bad…… but i know nothing about them and it seems they flat spot pretty quick after sitting.

the rears are “suredrive” sports…. Which appear to be a firestone low end… and they SUCK….. bad!

Currently looking for some decent replacements in the $150-200 range!!!

Does it really matter? Not your car and not your money.
Many times a lesser known brand or lesser established manufacturer will have a product that is just as good or some times better than the over-priced name brand. This goes for so much more than just tires. Sometimes you get a better value. There is a risk that you "get what you pay for" but that's not always the case.

It is not. It has always been the case ever since I remember and I've been on this forum since 2015.

People drop money on new wheels and then look for cheapest tires they can possibly find, getting some junk brand crap for the only thing that connects them to the road. Truly Mustang crowd behavior in its worst iteration.

(ECS02 mentioned above is a very good tire and nowhere near junk).

Agreed. These were on my '19 and my Bimmer and will go on the M1 when needed.

Yeah the ECS02 are a fantastic tire. I just wish they had that extra sidewall cushion in case you do something dumb and scrape against a curb.

I couldn’t care less what other people do with there car if it doesn’t effect others safety. I am all for people personalizing there car to their own taste. But putting Chinese knock off tires on your DD is just stupid

So I stopped running name-brand tires over almost two decades ago. I run through vehicles, whether DD or goof off projects, like some go through underwear. I got tired of spending $$$$ on tires for a vehicle that was going to be a runabout goof-off toy for a few months. So one day I took a gamble on an off-brand tire. Surprise surprise, it worked just as well as the high-dollar BS I'd been buying for years. So I started to research and use myself as a guinea pig, and lo and behold, the majority of the "cheap/knock off/Chinese crap" was just as good, if not better than the high-dollar options.

I've run plenty of name-brand (Michelin, Good Year, Firestone, Nitto, etc.), higher-end tires. From high horsepower to offroading, and pretty much everything in between. Are there some of those that are better than the "low-buck" options? Sure. However, for 95% of the folks around here. Get ready, this will ruffle some feathers. Even with boosted applications, the "cheap knock-offs" can be more than sufficient. "Yeah, but I bet they won't outlast my 86,642.8-mile name-branders I just replaced." Calm down, Kevin. You didn't get that many miles on those tires, and, yes, yes they will.

With all of that, yes, some of the low-buck options are crap, but so are some of the name-brand lower-level tires. As much as this pains me to say, the "ya get what ya pay for, buddy" statement is antiquated in the majority of scenarios these days.

(runs off to avoid the torches and pitchforks coming his way)
