So there's a class action suit against Ford for the smaller Ecoboost engines but it doesn't seem to include the 2.3L. No idea why. The law suit is claiming that Ford knew the cooling design between the cylinders and the head gaskets would fail but sold cars containing them anyway. Sometime in 2020, or there abouts, Ford changed the design to reduce the susceptibility of failures. I saw a video on it the other day but I can't find it among the noise on the web today.

Here's a link to one of the reports of the class action suit:

This update came out last week and now includes the mustang 2.3L engine in the lawsuit. Don't hold your breath for any real resolution in plaintiff's favor.

Well, there might be an extension of factory warranty involved at least. We have a 2021 Mazda CX5 and it seems Mazda has been getting hammered by these class action lawyers. We've gotten valve stem seal replacement and an extra 2 years/25k on the factory warranty though so im not complaining.

I was reading the other day on why Ford recalls have spiked in recent years apparently it's part of an NHTSA massive settlement that includes extreme recalls oversight and reporting.

I not worried about it I changed out the low pressure fuel sensor valve, have breather, and don't abuse the engine until it's at operating temp then I floor it often.

There are millions of EBAs on the roads and few failures even though majority of people just got the gas the instant it's turned on and use lowest grade gas possible.

I will join the case though for possible additional warranty.

Well that's a step in the right direction. Thanks for the link. But you're right, it's a long shot. Still, it doesn't cost anything to be a member of the represented class. The big question is if all 2.3L owner's can be represented or only 2.3L owner's who've had head gasket failures. The info I've read doesn't make it clear.

I found this webpage from the legal firm bringing the suit...

A quick video showing the difference in the engine block design between the pre-2020 4 cylinder EBs and the later versions.

Still a lot of unanswered question but your right it does not hurt to join in the class action.

Thanks for the link.

The only ones who make out in class action law suits are the attorneys who make millions of dollars while you get a $10 off coupon in many cases, rarely do the people end up with anything of value from a class action law suit.

You are not going to get a new redesigned engine from Ford, but the attorneys will make out like bandits making millions of dollars.

One of the few class action law suits where people actually got something of real value was the one against Sirius/XM and the life time subscription, a judge ruled that life time subscription was for the person not the device and could not be limited to just three changes of devices. But even in that lawsuit there was a way for Sirius/Xm to screw over the people, I had two life time subscriptions and I filled out the paper that included each life time subscription you had but when they did the actual settlement you had to of filled out a separate claim form for each subscription even though the claim form listed multiple subscriptions on it. So in the end I only got back one of my two life time subscriptions.

As for this class action lawsuit I have modified my 2.3 HPP so I would not qualify for any warranty anyway so it does not matter to me if they offered an extra year or two of warranty as it would not apply to my Mustang. The 2.3 engine has been very reliable over all and it in many different Ford vehicles and the truth is only a small number have failed, but that is the same with any engine in any vehicle a small number are going to fail.

Ford has had more failures in the smaller ecoboost engines under 2.3 liters but I think that is because they just went to small in engine size and had to push the power levels to make up for the lack of engine size.

so true... I would bet a longer warranty which most companies give to CPO vehicles anyway so it's really not going to be any skin off ford's nose and lawyers walk away with a mint.

I do sign up for all of them that I see and am qualified for though. every once in a while I'll end up getting a suprise email for a small giftcard from something I bought and signed up for a class action 2 or 3 years ago.
still waiting for the real estate listing fees lawsuit. I bought and sold 4 houses during the "qualifying years" phase but it's been 2 years now. I suspect I'll get a benjamin or 2 someday in the mail and lawyers get a new GTD, an extra garage to put it in and 3 kids full ride to princeton :)
