2015 Orange Mustang with oxidation issues on roof

So I’ve got a spot on the roof of my 2015 Orange Mustang I noticed a few days ago. Unfortunately I live in Florida for now…no garage at the townhouse…I have a car cover for tho. Have tried Maguires Compound followed with Chemical Brothers Polish and Wax. Today I tried Mothers Clay bar complete kit…and it did NOTHING. So any suggestions would be appreciated!!

I DID NOT use a machine. Short story long…we are in process of moving. My buffer is not packed yet…but the pads are! lol…so this was all by hand. AutoZone didn’t have any pads when I stopped by today to pick up the clay bars.

clay won t do anything for that. Like I said, if there s still paint then maybe a good machine and proper pad will bring it back. Next step then would be compound and last would be wet sand and polish. Go with the least first and work your way up only if needed. good luck.

Can't really make it look much worse so anything's worth a try, but it's basically the beginning stages of clearcoat failure. Remember with 2 stage paint once the top layer is oxidized like that it's basically game over, and it will only get worse as that first layer was doing all the heavy lifting of protecting the base coat.

I've seen people (either owners or shady car dealerships) conceal this with glazes and the like, basically oil filled products that fill in the area and make it looks better. Temporary though as they don't last too long.

The question is can a skilled paint shop spot fix it or does the whole roof need to be redone.. and that i'm not sure. Id guess most places would like to do the whole panel as it would be very challenging to make the spot repair not noticeable.

FWIW, i had a spot like this on my old car, but maybe half the size of a nickel, and it never spread as I aggressively kept a coat of protection on it. But i believe it was some kind of chemical damage, not long term wear.

Thats not oxidation, thats possibly burned/damaged paint from a previous polish session or just got baked via uv and heat without protection. But its in the clear and not in the color.

Might be able to lightly sand it out and re-polish but that depends how damaged the clear is. May need to sand deeper and respray some clear coats.

Thats not oxidation, thats possibly burned/damaged paint from a previous polish session or just got baked via uv and heat without protection. But its in the clear and not in the color.

In my opinion I wouldn’t try anything abrasive - I think your clear has already been polished away and you are down to the paint.

Test it with a new white (or light coloured) microfibre and rub a small spot very gently with a mild scratch remover / polish.

Any colour on you cloth = no clear …

Looks too rough for detailer mishap/clearcoat burn. Just looks like overexposure to UV and oxygen to me
