the intake is just about sound..

the stock orifice is all the flow that can come into the intake.. jtl intake inlet compressed the stock orifice. as shown in there posted video..

unless you want to claim sucking in hot air.

Dan fish, the one video has revs sitting still in it. drive bys with this car have more exhaust sound than intake.
I just wanted to hear if the intake makes noticeable noise when the hood isn't open.

Sounds like he's saying that all aftermarket intakes are just noise makers and don't provide any benefit over stock. Hmmm, the Dyno results seem to disagree. :shrug:

where the power really comes from is removing the stock sound deadeners, the accordians in the stock intake tubing, the resonators, and small opening to get air to the filter. All of those are restrictions or cause turbulence.

Also, Danfish, when I get mine, I'll get you a video.

that post and video shows the inlet for the stock and the jtl intake..

if you think the power to be gained in this motor is in the intake, go for it..

the real power gains are going to be from a downpipe and turbo changes. well and tuning. the restriction is not in the intake..

sure the dyno shows more power, what would you expect.. maybe if it showed air temps after the intercooler on both runs it might be a fair comparison..

btw, this is not just aimed at jtl. it is all intakes. until you free up the exhaust, nothing else is going in..

I can't remembwr where I read it but I read that the stock Tubing was the main restriction so you would see power gains from upgraded Tubing.

You do realize Mishi is making a CAI as well, right? Not saying they would skew the results to make sales but they aren't exactly unbiased.

Yes I know that. I was just quote mishi when they said an aftermarket intake would make more noise and be less restrictive.

JLT as well as others CAI makers have been dealing with the CAI worth it or not for a long time; on the 5.0's the consensus from everyone other than the manufacturers was that the gains to be had from the CAI/tune were 95% from the 93 octane/more timing from the tune and if you really wanted a better filter just buy a drop in filter.

Car makers not only have to worry about decibel levels from the exhaust side but the intake side as well which is why they stock intakes have restrictions/bends/baffles.

Some cars actually don't benefit from a cold air intake, and thats where this pointless video actually came from. BMW's e90 series M3 is a good example, as multiple aftermarket companies came out with CAI's for it, and all claimed gains. Then they slowly started to disappear when people showed no gains on the dyno. When OE manufacturers actually plan for a performance car to have a performance intake, instead of muffling it down, the OE stuff is really quite good. Some turbo cars have good setups from the factory as well.

I'd love to try this when my car arrives. only 4-7 more weeks to go...
I can't disagree that some cars respond better to mods then others. That's true for every car, some cars at $2000 set of headers only produces 1-2's.

While you do bring up some valid points, do you have any data on the Ecoboost intake system to provide backup to your claims?

Car manufacturers are fighting multiple things to get a car on the road these days, anything from EPA standards, to MPG standards to noise regulations. So you don't know exactly where the restrictions lye in any particular model.

I have a lot of experience in the turbo 4 cylinder world from a previous work place that specialized in Subaru's, Evo's, speed3s etc. I will tell you every one of those car's responded differently to Intake, downpipe, intercooler, and other bolt on's differently.

One thing to note about the EB Mustang is that the car does not have a MAF sensor, this allows us to get creative with the tapering of the intake without concern of MAF scaling. The intake tube on the EB Mustang is one of the largest in length Tube's that we've ever seen. It certainly ships in the biggest box we have. :lol: To say that there isn't something left on the table there from Ford is kind of silly.

Same for you Greg any data on this? Or is this claim strictly hearsay?

We've consistently seen 15whp on the intake on the 11+ over just a tune only car.

Last night at DTP we hung out to see a 2015 GT that had 170miles on it baseline and tune.

Car made 381whp with the Gibson exhaust on it. Installed our intake and the tune package we offer final number of 419whp.

We have multiple dyno graphs of cars with tune only and one's with our intake. It's typically near a 50/50 split in gains. There's also ton's of shops that have done 3rd party testing with similar results.


I also would like to point out we are one of the only manufacturers of a performance bolt on that post this much information on the internet about every one of our intake kits. Majority of other companies just put in the text on a random ad. Take that for what it's worth.
