Hello everyone. Not super new to the mustang industry as I had a 2020 Gt 10 speed for 2 years that ran great. I recently got a 2022 Premium GT 10 speed. The car only had 9,000 miles on it when I got it. I have only had it for 3 weeks & it seems to be giving me some issues. When cruising down the road at a steady speed & it is in a higher gear, if I barely press the gas, the car seems to hesitate. It kinda jolts back & forth. When it is jolting, I can see the RPMs slightly go up & down without going into a lower gear. I have to press the acceleration super hard to get it to go into a lower gear. Forget putting it into sport mode where it is jerking super bad with each gear. I did take it to Ford & they stated something is definitely up with the transmission & 5th gear seems to be the main issue. Problem is, they are backlogged for 4-8 weeks to get Diagnosed & my car would have to sit there the entire time. Has anyone else had this problem before? What was the resolution if so?

Almost sounds like the converter can't decide to lock/unlock.
Is it still a quick crisp downshift if you use the paddles?

Do you normally drive like a chauffeur?
If the transmission learns from lots of mild driving, it will act up when you try to drive spirited with it.

If the dealer suspects there is a problem with a specific gear I would probably stop driving it.

I typically do not drive it super slow. I do punch it here & there. But i have no clue how the previous owner handled it. The physical condition on the inside of the vehicle & the paint is in super good condition which makes me wonder why its already having issues. When I use the paddle shifters to make it go into a lower gear, it definitely doesn’t feel smooth.

I am also taking it to a different dealer tomorrow to get the diagnostics ran on it since they could get it in sooner than the one closer to me. Praying its not something thats outside of the warranty since I just put alot of money down on the car 3 weeks go.

I’m becoming convinced that the 10R80 hates being driven gingerly and prefers being beat like a pack mule. Try driving in hard for 2-3 weeks in Sport+ where it will hit every gear instead of skip-shifting. I did that to my ‘22 HPP two summers ago and it made a HUGE positive difference in overall shift quality, even when soft-shoeing it around town.

Disconnect battery for 5 min.

I drove mine gently most of the time and it performs well in D and S only thing is delayed kickdown some times when floor it in D. Will be getting trans tune soon.

The dealership I took it to said it was due to the adaptive drive of the driver. They reset it so it could adapt to how I drive & not how the previous driver drove the car. It does seem to be driving a little better since they reset it. Thank you everyone!

Disconnect the battery for half an hour and then take it for a good thrashing. It could change the way it works.
What your describing sound familiar. After I had a custom tune done it was a different car.

Hopefully it’s just the adaptive crap, it also Kinda sounds like it could be the torque converter not locking up when it should. If you have access to some diagnostic tool plug it in and look at the PiD for the converter lockup. 19+ should have it I believe. 2018 for some reason didnt have the point to look at. My car gets goofy if I drive nice all day and then spend 10-20 mins doing pulls and messing around the 4-5 and 5-6 shifts feel like my trans is blown lol.. but it goes back to normal after a little while 😂.

Also as a general FYI I believe the A10 cars have an unspoken high performance shift strategy that only activates if you press the pedal to the floor. Briefly touch the accelerator to the floor and let it back up right away. The car should downshift aggressively and hold much higher RPMs until it thinks you just want to cruise again.

I think my 23 GT Premium is doing what yours is. There was nothing wrong with my transmission as it had 550 miles on it at the time. The tune is pretty lame though as it gets confused at light throttle cruise in 7-10. Mine would unlock the converter, retard the timing, and then change its mind and stay in the gear then repeat over and over.
