I'm glad I read this thread. I was going to get the AirRaid just to try and improve the air flow (let the engine breath a bit better) along with getting a more free flowing exhaust. I'm not interested in doing any type of tune as the Eco in it's stock configuration has plenty of power for me and she'll never see the track! After reading this, I'm going to pass on getting a CAI as it seems it does very little when keeping the engine stock. Might as well save the money or put it towards other options/accessories.

This is a great forum for information!

If having a CAI on the Ecoboost will be a benefit, I'll definitely install one. The question is, how much of a benefit?

So is this an issue with running tunes and the airaid or the Bama tune? I do know not all the parameters within the sct are unlocked yet.
Its kinda of confusing to me too. I don't have a baseline dyno run so all I can do is estimate my gains over stock (going off an average of others stock baseline runs). I'm going to return the tune stock today and see how it drives with just the Airaid CAI. I know I'm getting some gains. But a 30rwhp gain just from any CAI? I don't see that happening. BAMA's red GTPP dyno'd at 412 rwhp with JLT CAI and their tune? car made 382rwhp stock).

I'm glad this topic came up because I'm currently trying to decide on which CAI to get. I think for me, it's between a JLT and Steeda. Steedas won't be out for another month, though if I'm not mistaken. I see them "available" on their site but towards the bottom it has an ETA of February 15th.

At any rate, I definitely plan on getting a tune once I add a CAI. Since Airaids don't require a tune, does that mean I'd be better off going with JLT or Steeda? Or will a tune still benefit an Airaid CAI (although it doesn't necessary require it)?
We know it can get confusing with several options to choose from, and to respond to your post - if you place an order now it is indeed a pre-order and you will not be charged until the CAI ships!

Oh, that's interesting. Does that mean you can run a Steeda without a tune with the sleeve in and simply remove it when you decide to get it tuned? If so, that's pretty cool. I plan on getting my ride tuned either the same day I install the CAI or maybe the day after so I guess it doesn't matter much. That is a pretty cool option to have, though. I just don't know if I want to wait a month!
Yes Bhoris, exactly right!

Does Steeda make different color filters or just blue?
Right now we just have the blue filter.

I've actually been curious about this, how exactly does the sleeve work and how easily can it be removed and inserted back?

The sleeve is a big reason why I'm thinking I'll end up getting the Steeda intake. Being able to go back to a stock tune when I bring the car in for maintenance (prevent voiding the warranty) without swapping the CAI makes it super convenient.

Sure, it's held in place by the interference fit of the o-rings, and the MAF sensor. It is easily removed especially if a little bit of grease was applied when it was installed, by removing the sensor and pushing the restrictor back out. In some cases (depending on the temperature) removal may require some force to push it back out, but it is just because of the fit of the o-rings.

Here to help with any other questions, thanks.

Once you install a new tune, there is an electronic counter in the computer keeping track of how many times it's been 'flashed'. So, even if you do the Steeda, or the JLT or any other that requires a tune, you turn it back to stock all you want, but the evidence is still there that it has been tuned. Now, is that something they automatically go looking for? That, I do not know. That being said , it is still up to them to prove that your tune is what caused whatever issue you may be attempting to have covered under warranty.

for regular maintance no they wont go looking for it, but if something goes wrong or even a check engine light comes on their going to hook it to the ford scan tool to see whats going on.

We obviously recommend that you work with your local Ford dealer and talk to the service manager about what they say is cool with them. Sometimes a mod-friendly dealer will leave you alone unless you're trying to get something covered under warranty that is obviously an issue because of performance mods. Be honest with them, that's the best advice I can give.

As for Chargedguard5.0, shoot me over a PM with your order number and I'll have the Bama Performance team work with you to figure out what's going on? The Bama tunes have been proven to gain a ton of power, especially when paired with the Airaid CAI. I'm wondering almost if the tunes didn't properly load and you're running essentially an Airaid on stock tune?

If you hook me up with your order number I'll have the Bama Performance Lead Calibrator in contact with you ASAP to get it figured out!

Went with JLT, actually installed it today. I had a JLT on my 12 and it ran great so choosing JLT for my 15 was a no brainer.
