Just purchased a GT350R and I can't describe how excited I am for it to show up. Though I just had a ....oh crap, moment. I noticed the GVWR on these is actually really low. Looking at mine, the GVWR is 4140 and says there's passenger capacity for 351 lbs. I'm 195lbs, before the helmet goes on, so let's round up to 200. 151lbs for passenger or trunk weight...gulp. Am I thinking about this right? Essentially I can't have anyone sit shotgun? :(

This came up once or twice in other threads, but the question was more for owners who put back seats in so they can add another body or two…which according to the door sticker, is not authorized.

was never really answered 🥸

I called Shelby today and they passed me to Ford Performance. FP chuckled as the guy didn't know the number was that low. He said he believed the number was more around balance of the car and really only impacts road racing strength. He wasn't worried about someone running say 400lbs+.

My opinion though. The standard GT350 has a weight rating of 600+lbs. Though suspension is different, the big difference is really the CF wheels. So I think the strength concern is those versus a forged wheel. I could be full of it, but seems reasonable. Couldn't find the weight/strength on the CF wheels

It's rating is clearly in regards to only being 2 seats. They don't want that 600+ lbs up front. Don't sweat it.

I wouldn't exceed the rating if possible.
It's easy to dismiss the low rating as laughable but I doubt Ford spent money to do that math for nothing. Many Mustangs just state "Maximum Load" without specifying the balance.
If you exceed will it cause problems? Maybe not.
I would imagine it'll just be accelerated wear on your suspension. As long as you're just mildly Sunday cruising when overweight it may be ok but taking bumps and potholes and such while overweight is another story

My main concern really is with regards to track days. If I have my partner or an instructor sitting shotgun it will be over, but I expect max would be 50lbs over. Seems safe but was still alarmed to read the limit

Yeah that makes sense too. Standard equation with no rear seats

Congrats and enjoy - it’s an epic machine, and something that’s going extinct so welcome to the club - drive, enjoy, and hold onto her! Congrats again!
