The brake pedal (or clutch pedal) “bumpers” if missing or have become deteriorated, will also cause multiple operational issues. The threads for that topic is here:

Thank you. I checked and did not find any damage to the brake pedal bumper.
And to make matters worse my vehicle is a 6r80.
I honestly don't know if it's a program bug or mechanical damage.

Many vehicle brake light switches have redundant backups, so while it may look like it’s all working properly, one or the other could be failed, leading to a warning being displayed. Some also do something similar with certain switches in the shifter console. I would recommend a scan tool with PID read outs to see what the vehicle is seeing before going too much farther. That should give you a good idea of the direction you need to be pointed in.

Recently had the same issue with my 2015 F150. Vehicle was in park, foot was on the brake, press the start button and no start. Message on the screen says “Press brake to start “

Problem turned out to be a failing starter.

you beat me to it, was about to post the same thing.

mine was degenerative…

first the “press brake”
shortly after took three pushes to start
then finally no start at all in the airport parking garage

…I swapped all the switches and associated hardware after each increasing failure, finally ponied up and swapped the starter. All is well again 😎

If the shifter switch is involved and a program reset is required then that seems like the cause.
When the shifter switch is broken, turning the ignition on and off repeatedly may have caused the bug. (The ignition is forcibly recognized as being in P if it is turned on and off once.)
Is it possible to reset it without a reset tool? Will simply disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it have any effect?
