So had a brain fart idea. I'm not actually needing it. But allot of people often wonder how Ford will react to warranty work if the car is or was turned.

People usually tell them to "put it back to stock BUT Ford can see they have tuned it at some point"...that being said..

So Ford knows a tune had been applied even if it's back to stock. But they don't know the specifics of the previous tune. Only that you had applied one at some point.

Couldn't you conceivablely buy a Ford tune at some point have them install ect. Then later apply whatever tune you want? My thinking is...

If the day comes and you need work done under warranty, and they say "you had a tune" you could reply "yeah but it was a Ford performance tune" Assuming you had it done by Ford and have evidence to back it up.

I'm stuck in my squad car watching a protest for 3 more hours. I'm bored...

The system counts the number of times the 'key' is cycled after the last flash so that might trip you up though you could always claim that you thought it was the Ford tune and you tried removing it to see if that cleared your issue.

The Ford power pack tunes are ordered by VIN, so they would in theory have record of that. So, they could call BS if in fact you are bluffing. Something to think about…

I was also hung up on that part.

Ford does give you the ability to switch their tune on and off I would think? I don't know. If they do then like you said you could just say you took it on and off X amount of times.

Maybe you had to drive to another state with junk gas or something I dunno.

That's the part that actually helps since it technically not a bluff. You actually get a Ford tune, like legitimately. So all the info is on "file"

I'm not saying you just claim you have/had one without having HAD one at some point. See what I'm saying?

That’s correct, if you have one they can verify and it would be covered under the warranty that came with said power pack. I don’t recall with the power packs if they come with a warranty backed by FP that replaces parts of the factory warranty, but that’s how their (Roush and Whipple) supercharger warranties work.

My comment was directed more to those that would try to bluff their way out of a warranty denial by claiming it was a FP tune when it really wasn’t. But I agree, if you have a FP tune and a warranty gets denied because the car is tuned, you have a case to be made.

Flow chart.

Ford installs Ford tune tune> I drive away legit> I get home install XXX tune> a year later engine gets weird> go back to original Ford performance tune or stock> go for warranty work> they say car was tuned> i tell them I had the Ford Tune installed by ford> Don't tell them that between those points it was XXX tune.

They can see the number of times the car was started after its last time the tune was altered...

Debatable if it's worth $1200 to play this game, lol. The Ford tune is much more likely to be ignored (not guaranteed), but if you're bringing any car in with a blown engine and 3 key cycles, you're still probably getting denied.

Could say that FP tune was causing an issue, so flashed back to stock for a while then flashed back to FP tune. But now you’re in an ethical dilemma at minimum and quite possibly fraud.

Sure they can see that but it might not matter. Not sure what freedoms the Ford tune even has for the end user. I've never had a Ford tune or warranty work🤣 so it's hypothetical for me

They could just see a Ford tune, or you've had a Ford tune and assume that's why they are seeing the car has been tuned/keys if they even looked and that would be the end of them looking into it.

It's like like money laundering your tune (if the expense would be to the benefit lol)

I mean sure, but anything that gets extra eyes on your claim isn't a good thing. Especially since the FP tune has included parts that are required. So now you have to slap all this shiny unused stuff on and power wash your engine bay to try to hide the fact. Just a ton of effort and expense. I've swapped my kit on and off quite a few times for testing purposes and I can't imagine trying to do that after a breakdown, lmao.

On top of that, most eligible cars are nearing the end of powertrain warranty anyway. From what I hear ESP is far more picky about that kind of stuff, especially if theres any doubt in the timeline of events. They don't have to follow the same rules for approval, so I'm pretty sure if they see a recent flash you're SOL.

Just use the Ford tune or don't tune if you need warranty.

100% it's literally just am off the cuff thought. That has a very narrow window of value if it was even functional or nessassy.
