So in cars under $100,000 they like not only the slowest car and the car with the lowest horsepower and torque ratings. I could’ve seen them say maybe they liked the BMW or the Nissan but the Acura give me a bloody break.

The DH exceeds few expectations. That's interesting to me. I guess that must mean it's pretty similar to past Mustangs? What I want to know is whether it's measurably a better performer than the other cars. Seems like it is, based on the numbers.

Picking the Acura as the winner - a front wheel drive car that's 5 seconds slower than the Mustang doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Having four doors and lots of room doesn't make a car perform better. The writer mentions them as if they would sway a performance car buyer. To me, in a Performance Car of the Year contest, those are negatives about the car, not positives. But all Hondas are big now. There really isn't a small, PCOTY fitting vehicle offered by them.

I noticed the Acura was primarily understeering the entire time, which car reviewers typically say they dislike. It also seemed like the tires were really getting used hard. The lap immediately before the "hot lap" was significantly slower yet at 1:31 and change.

One thing, the Acura is a lot cheaper than the DH. But it's pretty expensive still at $52K.

I wonder what Acura's advertising budget is and how much went to Motor Trend?

If value matters, they should be recommending a used vehicle or a lower option Mustang as a performance car, not a 4 door FWD commuter car. To me, the Acura is meant for people who want comfort/style as their main priorities. People who will think the car is fast, but not realize how an actual fast car drives.

I remember buying an '83 Mustang GT from someone back in the day (157 HP if I recall correctly). He told me it's fast in an excited voice. I tried really hard not to roll my eyes. The Acura is for people like that guy.

I'd have picked the stang.ive got a 19 and took it out today in 17 degree weather. my tires just wouldn't hold and i was leaving rubber in sport drive up till 4th.big mistake​

Fair to say an outsized percentage. All the car and gun mags have gone this way for well over 2 decades. No way the publisher will let the editor allow his writers to say anything that could be perceived as negative about a major sponsors product. Not a chance. If the car, in this case, doesnt outright perform well in the event its competing they cant say that, so instead they change the criteria and create some bullshit metrics by which they can appear to justifiably score the car in question high enough to achieve the predetermined and desired outcome.

My reaction was the same. Who in the f$&@ is taking an Integra over an M2 or DH?? Yeah it’s a $20k price difference, I get that but come on.

It was a good read, thanks for posting. The DH is a real weapon when you get the HP with the Trofeo RS tires. I bet the lap time is even faster when equipped with the CF wheels. How much faster I don’t know but they would make a difference.

I’m also not also not the biggest C8 fan, but I’d love to give the E-Ray a spin back to back with my brother in law’s Z51 to feel the difference.

And putting a BAC Mono in there is a little goofy. That’s a frickin race car and the others in that $100k+ category are street cars. Maybe put the BAC up against a Dark Horse R and other track-only cars

"Normal" people who buy non-performance vehicles would buy the Acura. If I wanted to spend $20K less, I'd buy a regular GT and then modify it as I could afford to do so.

The CF wheels probably at least improve steering feel if the rest of the car is tuned to take advantage of the light weight. I doubt they would change lap times for normal humans, but a pro driver might get something out of them.

Yeah I get that. I’d be in the same camp as you though, if I don’t want to spend $70k, I’m going used before I buy a new Integra. To me, the Integra is along the same lines as the Camry TRD and the Altima SR and the like. They’re sporty, but are they really performance cars? As you said, to the normal every day driver, yeah they might be. But in actuality they’re really not. Just sporty sedans.

Yes, issue is a car magazines like rodent track (this is funny I said road and track and my phone put in rodent track) I guess my phone doesn’t like road and track either.
No, it was a nice article. However, as many people have said, most car magazines aren’t worth squat anymore.
