Based on what the tech at Ford told me, he can take the tune off but in my case I had left the Lund device at home, therefore he couldn’t do it.

Right, he has no access to your car without having the Lund device. 100% unacceptable in my book. The car's computer is not his to lock.

To be honest with you, I had no idea Lund locks the car computer as a result even Ford cannot access it unless they have the Lund tuning plugged in device or you must contact Lund team. I recall someone mentioned that there’s a way Ford still can access the car computer without the tuning device. For now, it’s off my car.

Yes the tech could absolutely overwrite your tune with the stock tune that came from ford for your car. But then you’d have to reflash it again. Lund can’t lock the pcm from being written to just you can’t read out and edit his tune.

negative. They can indeed overwrite the PCM as needed. This is how you get a stock tune if the car needs to be flashed by someone else or if the PCM is somehow bricked - but not hardware failed.

Only if they send the ECU to Ford and they reconfigure it on a bench, hell the software I have I can scramble the ECU so no one can access it.

Go to HP forums and search you will find many cases where people have had to buy new ECU's due to buying a tuned car and it did not come with a programmer.

It used to only be Lund, now it is several more.

I am a contract engineer for a lot of car manufacturers and there is always a way for the dealerships/manufacturers to overwrite the tune. Even if the ECU has been "locked". Part of the design always includes a back door for dealerships to rewrite to the stock tune or access the pcm. They also have every right to change it back to the stock tune as when you hand them the keys you agree to certain fine print that in a shortened sense is an agreement that your car has not been tampered with or modified in a way that would prevent a ford service from functioning the correct way. This unfortunately includes tunes.

The back door you are talking about needs the ECU on a bench. Ford dealers do not have that type of access. The cost is the same or more than buying a new ECU. When you consider down time most bought new.

I'm getting my recall fixed tomorrow. I have 2023 Mustang GT 5.0. i check my fluids at least once a week. That said, I had an ex-wife, married at the time, cut the brake line of my car. I had a friend who had a brake line come off. I'm having it fixed mostly for psychological reasons. Do I need a light, no. But, past experience being what it is, I'll let them fix it. LOL
