Would you buy a CFTP without CF wheels?

I bet those wheels are long gone. The car has changed hands too many times, including an auction. People at the dealers and especially the auctions just have no clue about that kind of detail or even know that it matters.

Aside from the wheels being apart from the car, the answer is yes, if I was buying the car at the right price (a good number MINUS the cost to replace the wheels and tires to how it should be on a CFTP), then I don't see a problem.

I know for a fact that the wheels are not serialized to the car. Of you wanted to keep it correct, you would need to find a set that is the approximate manufacture date to go along with the car. IE) don't put 2020 wheels on a 2022. But that's only if you care about a correct example of the year of the car.

So yes, as long as I was not paying for the CFTP name minus one of the things that make it a CFTP, the wheels.

I don't have a dog in the fight, but I was curious of pricing and piecing together a set.

On Ebay, one seller has listed a new, in-the-box set for $17,000. Two or three other ads at other sites, from car owners, list wheels+tires for roughly same.

What I found most difficult would be to piece together a set. If those two or three listings (four with the one here in post #3) were not currently available, an interested buyer might spend quite a bit of time, and $, buying one here, one there or waiting for four to come up for sale.

Been there done that. They do pop up. Usually curb rushed wheels that are inexpensive and easy to repair. If you want a NIB set, you are going to pay.

Yes, the car is in the VIN, but the wheels make up the heart of the car as it was designed.

Yes, I agree. The reason I mentioned the MSRP price is because most sellers want 8-10K over MSRP for a GT500, and some even higher for a CFTP. Since he has his listed for MSRP with Signature series wheels, that means it will cost me another 12-15K to pickup a year matching set of CF wheels, so I might be better off just looking at CFTP cars with the wheels.

15k minimum. It’s not a cftp without the wheels, period. Nothing wrong with putting on a set of forged wheels if you want a styling change or your concerned about sticky fingers, but its completely not necessary if its about strength. The oem wheels(carbon) are stronger then forged from an impact perspective. Best of luck.

Knowing what you know now, you are armed with the info you need to decide. I wouldn't buy it because someone says it's a CFTP and it doesn't have the wheels. Come up with a fair price for one with the wheels and subtract the cost to get the wheels along with FP cup 2s, but to be fair, figure on the resale value of the signature wheels and tires. Factor all of those together and that would be my number.

I might even also factor in the hassle of having to source the CF wheels and run around getting it all together.

I'll make a wager, you and the selling party will be worlds apart because they think that they have something and they probably don't appreciate or understand the missing wheels.

My guess is the dealer selling the GT500 does not have a $15k cushion of profit in the car to allow for the missing wheels. They are not going to admit their mistake of buying a CF car w/o CF wheels. The dealer will try to sell the car as is and hope someone buys it that doesn’t know the difference. Once they are confronted by a knowledgeable buyer the dealer will throw out every excuse imaginable to justify the asking price.

I called the dealer, and as expected, the CF wheels are not with the car. Since I will not be buying it, I will post the information in case someone else might be interested.

EDIT: The more I think about it, maybe several people should call telling them the same thing I did, that it is really not a CFTP car without the $15K CF wheels.

I called them too. Salesman thought it was funny they still had it because of the wheels being missing. I took it there gettn blown up on it. I asked if there negotiable, said he’d call me back.

Added: They sent it to auction, they think it’ll bring 95k.

Its the same as adding the CF wheel to a base. Doesn't make it a CFTP. Part of the identify is the CF rims, and not having them makes the 'Package' incomplete. Yes in theory it's still a 'CFTP' but incomplete.

id buy it for msrp ($102,315) minus 3K (cause its used) minus 15K(for the wheels missing), which would be $84,315.

I don't think the seller would accept that because they probably got duped on the wheels and are upside down/underwater.

They called you back and said they just sent it to auction today? This morning he told me it was available and sitting on their showroom floor.

They are a Dodge/Chrysler dealer, so I am not surprised that they know nothing about the used car they bought at auction for a “great price” and think it is funny they have not sold it when it is missing $15K wheels…

Sounds like a sales tactic. I wouldn't pay more than 84K and that is if the rest of the car was perfect.

No stripes, no black roof, just plain jane metalic red. Bla.
