Hi all!
Couldn't find any thread on this with the search function so I hope this is not a duplicate.

Getting full front PPF installed next week and wanted to see what other people have done with regards to the hood decal/stripe.

I have 4 options:

1. Gloss over entire hood
2. Remove stripe, PPF hood, and put new strip on top of PPF
3. No PPF on stripe, just around
4. Matte PPF on the matte part of the stripe and gloss for the rest of the hood

I am leaning towards 4, even though there will be a seem between the gloss and the matte PPF

What do you think?

Thank you!

PPF around or remove and reinstall after PPF. cannot PPF over it, it doesn't work well, except on the JFG cars apparantly.

What @Jimmy Dean said. The FJG cars are the only ones that can have PFF installed over the hood decal. The matte finish on the non-FJG will cause air bubbles. Have then cut it around the decal.

FJG master race. Mine is PPF'd with a separate piece that's matte so it wouldn't make it look glossy and maintains the OEM look. The piece is perfectly against the other with no slit or dirt build up showing.

This is what my PPF place said they could do. Need to decide next week Tuesday when I drop off the car.
The Cons would be dirt build up by the seem and the potential damage to the decal if/when PPF gets removed.

Interesting! Is it because the hood decal on the FJG is not matte?
The decal on FJG is apparently of a different material (different surface). The matte patch on the hood stripe has a metallic vibe and is perfectly smooth. (https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/th...-to-your-m1-today.171200/page-16#post-3511540).

While every other color patch has a rough matte part and when wrapped makes bubbles. (https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/ppf-questions.161306/post-3331213)

Yeah, the trade off is rocks damage the vinyl decal with no PPF or damaging the decal with PPF removal several years later. Have to pick your poison. There's also no guarantee that the PPF will damage the decal either.

I think I may go without PPF on the stripe (not even glossy on the non-matte part of the decal since it will make the "mach 1" logo disappear).

The best solution would be decal off, PPF on, new decal on but that would make it really expensive.

I had PPF around the sticker, then ceramic applied to all of it. Granted ceramic doesn't give protection, it does make it easier to clean.

There is another way, kind of middle ground, which I believe @Charlemagne did. Have the hood PPF wrapped over the smooth decal edge and cut only around the inner rough patch. This way you will end up with only one "seam".
