There won't be any differences between the stage 1 and stage 2 as far as the actual supercharger goes. It's the other stuff that changes from stage 1 to 2.

Exactly all the base cases innards etc should look just like everybody else's case.
In my opinion I would be livid that they're trying to pawn this off on you.

I agree. I think if it was a more "finished" look I would feel a little better about it. I'm sure the changes open it up somewhat for more flow, but it does appear that the rotors are more compromised / weaker with the reduction of the webbing and the skinnier shaft. The part that i'm most concerned with is the lack of any sort of finesse making the changes. The absence of casting flash tells me someone has modified this and as someone else said it sort looks like someone went in with a grinder. Now, if it is indeed a ported model - whether from Whipple themselves or an aftermarket company, I would expect the shaping to be uniform without the nooks, crannies, flat spots and imperfections. Looks like they didn't do anything near the webbing where it attaches to the case as well.

I agree with OP. I'd like to see a few pics from Whipple themselves with the same webbing set up and smaller shaft if they are telling you it looks fine.

These things are expensive - I expect Whipple to make it right or provide some good documentation saying this is normal. With as many people on this board that have purchased this Whipple, if this is indeed OK I would likely expect to have someone else here with the same set up.

Who was the dealer you bought it from? Wonder if they are aware etc... Wonder if @beefcake has any on the shelf that he could have a peek at to see what they have inside or if he's ever seen anything like it.

Who knows. I'm sure it will all work out though!

Fingers crossed! As for where I purchased it from, I purchased it from Lethal, placing the order late February.

Lethal is pretty stand up as well. I'd shoot them an email with a few pics as well. It's just an oddball if you know what I mean. It may be fine, but if no one has ever seen anything like it, i'd be suspicious!

I literally just received my stage one kit about an hour ago. Saw this thread and here's my blower. Looks similar to the OP's pics. Protective seal was not broken

Aye, so looks like all is good(?) other than the fact that mine still looks messier. I'll see what Whipple says when I get a response for comparison.

I've already gotten a response from them after sending the pictures I had posted originally, and they said there were no abnormalities.

I replied asking for some pics of the same kit for comparison to be 100% sure as others thought it was odd, and that I'm still waiting on for a reply.

It looks like they may have revised the shaft to reduce rotational mass. Just spitballing.

On a side note, this is a really cool picture.

Well there you go.

Design changes mid production. Or different supplier. BUT, I’d still want to know why OPs looks like it’s been beaten up a little.

They should flow more than the 5 web design.

I agree. Great picks!

I got my G5 pre-pandemic....seal not broken, inlet showed that fine-grained casting texture, 5 shaft locators and thicker shaft like the others posted above. I agree it's very, very likely that they reduced flow restrictions going to three locators. Like the Beechcraft Bonanza with a V tail, going to two airfoils from three to reduce drag/flow, probably a nice little improvement esp at big HP/high flow. Not sure why the shaft changed...different supplier? Lower mass?

But having said that the banged up appearance of the OPs vs others with the 3-rib and more normal cast surface appearance DEMANDS a satisfying answer from Whipple...and Lethal should be with you on that. Even if it doesnt affect performance why is yours different? A pre-production model before the final molds were ready that they decided to ship to a customer?

Definitely agree with both of you. Have to wait until next week for a reply.
