Mustang GT Spoiler

Hey there, I just recently picked up a 2022 Mustang GT and it did not have a spoiler from factory which means no holes in the trunk.

I was looking to get a spoiler to add some touches to the car until I do a wing but I cant find one without bolts on it.


If anyone has any suggestions on a spoiler that is installed with 3M automotive adhesive (no drilling/bolts) I'd really appreciate it!!

Unfortunately, most of them you'll have to drill holes in your trunk.

One of the onese that are adhered by only 3M is the steeda one below

Agree, you really need the bolts otherwise the tape is not strong enough.

Your best bet is to maybe trade trunks with someone local that has the holes and is looking to go spoilerless without having to fill and re-paint theirs. Or drilling holes isn't that bad.

You can get a takeoff from a junkyard, probably will be able to find a decklid the wrong color with spoiler holes and some scratches for $200 or less. Then you can have it painted and keep your stock one for later.

Or just wait and leave the cosmetic spoiler off until you do the wing.

I agree with @NightmareMoon if you can wait until you’re ready to do the wing, that’s your best bet. CJPP, American Muscle, etc sell spoilers that are tape only and while they probably hold just fine for street use if properly applied, if you’re planning on tracking the car at all, I’m not sure I’d trust a taped on spoiler. The Acceletec brand on CJPP has a tape only spoiler if you’re looking for a specific place to look.

I am in the same place as the OP. The bare trunk is growing on me, but I'm slowing looking for a trunk with holes. I rather keep the original trunk untouched and switch it out once I find one.

Yeah I've noticed lol. Just want something thats temporary cuz i like the spoiler look.

I have to disagree with you. My supra before my drilled wing had a 3m spoiler on it and after proper prep it stayed on perfectly even going 160+mph.

I'm not saying it won't stay on and just fly off, but I feel like it will lift in some places and not sit perfectly flush.

I did all the prep work, even got the "extreme" 3M version and there's still a few spots where it's coming up. The whole thing is more than fine staying on the lid, but you can hear it rattle a bit when closing the trunk because it's not firmly secured 100% around.

I picked one up when I first got my car from eBay. It was under $70 with free shipping. I just prepped it good and used good 3M tape, not the cheap stuff that came with it. It was on for 2 years with no issues until I got the PP1 wing and had to drill holes.

Which spoiler did you end up going with.

On my previous car I had a PP which came with the spoiler delete like yours with no holes and I got a cheapo blade spoiler from ebay. I heard horror stories about the no name tape they were using so I tore it off and purchased some quality 3M stuff as mentioned and used that. But it still was loose especially around the outside edges, in the middle it was solid.

Maybe I didn't press it on properly everywhere from the beginning, but that's where the holes with studs would help. It would be easier and more efficient to secure the spoiler with those while the tape cured.

Now I have a GT500 spoiler on a lid with holes and it's solid as a rock all around.

I would think that with the potential of 240lbs of downforce created with a good spoiler setup that, for piece of mind sake alone, bolts would be a must.

Perhaps the one on the Supra was more for looks then performance?

Most of the spoilers made are created for looks and if they aren't actually moving any air, then it wouldn't have any forces trying to pull it off the car - at any speed.

240lbs is only the "swing" as well, if you moved to an actual wing they can have even more force applied to them.

I know that 240lbs of downforce doesn't me that it has 240lbs acting - pulling - on the actual spoiler, but it does mean that it is pushing a whole bunch of air.

And also knowing that it will only fail when your going at high speeds, I don't see why anyone would chance tape of any kind.

I'm no expert but taking a chance of a 4 foot piece of plastic flying off my car at 150mph+ does not sound like anything I want to be apart of.

That said there are a whole bunch of these things on the market that do absolutely nothing but look "cool", so if that's all your after, then do your best to make sure it is just for looks and you'll probably be ok, probably...

There's still going to be air that flows from the top of the car to the spoiler whether or not it was designed to be functional or not. A majority of spoilers designed for non-american cars are not drilled such as the one for my M4 comp(I've done many times over 130-150 mph and no issues). It just so happens that companies like GM or Ford for who knows what reason. The issue would be with improper install of the tape, and how the fitment is to the oem trunk
