Does your supercharger pulley sound like this?

My pulleys have a loud high pitched ringing sound when I'm warming up the car.

They quit down a little after the car is warmed up. But I think it's just because the car is idling a little higher when its cold.

Does anyone else have this sound? I'm running a Roush phase 2 kit but probably shouldnt matters, I'm assuming this issue could be happening for other setups.

The blower comes pre-oiled and sealed. There's no way to change the oil. I think there's a text in the instructions or warning piece of paper that explicitly says its not necessary to put oil in it.


The pulleys are brand new with less than 1000 miles on it. What do you mean bad? like the bearings?

Grab a belt hog & make sure all your pulleys are aligned. Even if it's a little off they get whiny. Grab a bar or soap & check the belt

never used one before. i looked it up and it looks like a laser alignment tool. is that the tool youre talking about?

i could try that i guess but its a real tight fit , highly doubt i could get it in there.

i'd probably have to take off the radiator and low temp radiator reservoirs just to fit it in there.

what does the bar of soap do?

i'm pretty sure i torqued everything down to spec idk if the pulleys can be off.

One thing i should add is i did spill a tiny bit of coolant when filling up the reservoirs after the SC install. Tried to clean them off after i was done, idk if thats related here.

found this video. this guy has an alignment issue with the same roush kit except it doesnt make any noise at all.

I had a bearing go out on the pulley that's on the bracket that attaches to the block. This happened around 20,000 miles. I started the car remotely one night and when I got in it was blowing hot air and should have been cold by then as the A/C was on. Popped the hood and the belt was shredded.

When I took it in to have a new belt put on they said one of the pulley's had a bad bearing and that was the cause of the failure. There was no noise under my hood or any indication something was up.

The sound is definitely coming from the belt/pulleys? IC pump can squeal like that as well when its not happy.

If you're thinking it could be align:
-I'd confirm (page 46 & 52) that FEAD tensioner bracket assemblies are assembled correctly and nothing came loose.
-I'd also confirm that the Roush crankshaft pulley is still fully seated and torqued. The angle torqueing sequence put my pulley bolt at ~135 ft lbs. Roush gave me a clearance measurement to confirm that the pulley is seated on the crank. Let me know if you need it.

I have a procharger P1X on a 3.5" pulley. It whines like a damn jet getting ready to take off.

The soap will add some kind of lubrication to your belt. If it stops making the noise, your pulley is misaligned. If not, then possibly a bearing. I had this issue on my Whippled car. Ended up loosening the head unit bolts & with them all on wiggled it fwd what I could & fixed the issue.

Got it okay ill give it a test. The pulleys are all grooved the belt sits within the pulleys locked in I would imagine they would not be able to sit flush as they do if it was misaligned. But maybe it could be misaligned in some other way? Not sure.

Yeah not sure why the vide broke but the sound is really all we need here so I didn't mess with it anymore.

Its really hard to tell where the noise is coming from when i put my head directly over the SC or the motor it just sounds like its coming from everywhere tbh i couldn't pin point it when moving my head around there + the rest of the engine noises make it harder

Without a doubt the fead bracket is installed correctly. I remember torquing those down specifically I can check again later tonight. Don't know if i can check the torque on the bolts since theres too many other parts in the way.

Maybe it is the crank pulley that thing was hard to torque down. I think my torque wrench maxed out at 20 ft-lbs below the Roush spec but to compensate I gave it about a half a turn or more with a break bar and pipe to account for that extra 20 ft-lbs.

Tbh the noise goes away after warming up for about 1-5 mins. I just tested it last night after posting. Even after driving its gone.
