How are you changing oil & filter at home

I get what you are saying, I have 4 floor jacks and raise the car as equal as I can and then back that up with 4 stands.

That's rich, raising the whole car at once? Or 2 forward raise set stands and go to the rear, repeat?

I've been doing all my own oil changes for decades and I've always used ramps. No way I will ever get under a car that simply uses jacks.

I have jacking rails, so four jacks , which I can bring it up pretty level , then just get 4 stands under too. Or if I just need the front, then same procedure basically.

Almost sounds like a second job. I bet we take about the same amount of time readying the car for in this case an oil change.

yes, the first change on this car was the longest it has ever taken me to change oil. LOL. I m sure I ll get a little faster now that I know the car and tools needed but at least it s better than some dealer making a mess for me. I just lift the front for oil changes BTW.

The oil change is something to get used to for sure LOL, DTY, is hands down the best workaround.

I ve alway thought of getting one of those, but something scares me about going under it. I use several floor jacks and jack stands . I m sure there safe, it s just me.

I tried to make jack+stands approach work for me, but as @Rapid Red said, I gave up trying to find a safe method using one jack. Lifting it with 4 jacks is just not my thing. QuickJack has proven to be awesome and stupid simple. As a safety measure, I put couple of 12 ton heavy duty pin type stands under the QJ frames, like these ones: https://www.amazon.com/BIG-RED-ATZ120005R-Professional-Capacity/dp/B09ZNTWYZG.
So if all the safety measures of QJ fail, the car would land on these massive stands.

I just drive up on my plastic ramps and knock it out. I despise the oil filter location.

This a worthwhile post, I like it, how does it work for the filter? Looks like that could be a bit tight room-wise.

Going to combine the dolly idea, that's a good one.

I still have a usual oil drain pan, similar to yours, which I use for filter. After I open yellow plug and while oil is still dripping into the bucket, I swap the filter.

Does oil still get on the under carriage? My power steering wires are directly below and get all oily if I let it go its own way. So do several pieces of metal. Not that big of a deal for the metal but cleaning it up is an added pain and it still is a magnetic for dirt. I'm not a big fan of the wires and tape wrap holding them together getting soaked with oil though...

I've been using one of those moldable 'funnels' (more of a chute) but damned if it hasn't been a mess the past few times...

you are talking about filter swap, right? what I pictured is oil drain plug, which when removed initiates Niagara level of oil flow. if you use regular oil drain pan, it's a mess all over the place. I found HD bucket to be perfect and cheapest solution for the problem, as I have zero trust in all of these aftermarket plugs and losing it while lapping is last thing I want to happen.

as far as the filter removal, I haven't figured out any good solution just yet, I get same oil drip all over my hand and wire harness just like everyone else . I tried to wrap the harness in foil as someone suggested here, but it didn't do much (maybe I did it in a dumb way). I'll get to it after winter hibernation.

Yup, filter swap...

My wide mouth catch can does OK for not spilling during the oil pan dump unless the wind is blowing once it gets down to a trickle.

I might have to give the bucket a try. How well does it pour out? I usually put the used oil into the empty oil bottle. Hopefully my funnel is big enough.
