I've never noticed if the ring around it lights up or not...not even sure it's a big deal where it is...just wondering if it should. They do light on the dash of my wife's EcoSport.

This all came about as I want to leave an iPod in the console, and bought a console insert that gives another level of storage. I have a right angle USB connector on my cable, but it faces up when plugged in. Which, gets the cable in the way of the latch, etc.

Tonight, I popped out the media hub and filed the plate that holds the hub & 12v power point in order to rotate the media hub 180 degrees so the cable now faces down - out of the way. All connectors only go one way, so it was simple to just plug it all back in. Everything works! Can't tell a thing was changed.

FWIW, there are only 2 wires in the 4 pin connector that supplies power. 12v and ground. The other 2 positions are empty. The other connectors are both USB.

Don't have immediate access to my ride. I went to the order guide and noticed a distinction between base, premium and other models. Premium models reference ambient lighting while base models do not.

Could not tell from the narrative thus far. The car of interest, does it have ambient lighting? Could this be a factor?

Mine is a premium GT, with ambient lighting. I wouldn't expect that to extend to the USB port inside the console. The console does have illumination when open.

You'd think they take the time to light the cup holders, they'd continue on to the USB ports. LOL.

This is what I did with mine: I swapped out the single USB hub in the center console for a dual. Purposefully disabling the USB under the start button because I covered it with a DSP controller for my stereo. I also hate seeing charging cables. Now I can put my phone in the center console, plugged in for Android Auto and have my USB music stick all working in one place. Purchased from ebay Ford parts dealer for $58 US part# HC3Z-19A387-F. Bonus, both ports light up.

Nice! I was using a thumbdrive in my former SHO, but they don't connect quick enough in the Mustang...so I'm using an iPod...
