Any idea if it's OK to install a shelby CAI,like the photo, without flashing the computer ? Fitment and computer compatibility issues ?
I can Get one for $150 ,but I'm wondering...

No you can't, it requires a tune otherwise it will drive like crap and possibly damage your engine.

I think you are correct but what if... the CAI is just a K&N type filter in a box and how different is that from a K&N filter in the stock box? Installing a K&N filter does not require a tune (nor does it increase power from what I have seen).
The MAF (with stock tune) can compensate for a really dirty filter and likely has some room in the other direction too for a more free flowing filter, how much is a guess though.

In the end I would like to see a real flow test between stock and CAI, my guess is very little difference.

A K&N filter in the stock box keeps the same MAF diameter, so the computer is fine. The Shelby CAI has a bigger MAF diameter, which the computer can't compensate for thus requiring a tune.

That's why you have no tune required intakes that keep the MAF tube the same size as stock, then you also have tune required intakes that increase the size of the MAF tube.

If I did it I would use the factory air flow sensor I was thinking

The sensor itself doesn't matter, it's the inner diameter of the tube surrounding the sensor that matters. The OEM tune assumes a certain diameter in the calculation, if you change the diameter without telling it so it will run very poorly as the air calculation will be way off.

Correct. Same MAF, different MAF table in the software. The large diameter lets more air in. The MAF reports this to the CPU but it goes outside of the range the MAF table is programmed to. It might work if the airflow stays withing the software parameter, but unless you do the math and see whats in the table, you will never know.
