Perceptions of Middle-age Men in Mustangs

64 1/2 years young
I've been into performance cars since a kid and no intention of stopping anytime soon.
I had an 06 GT that was my daily driver since new to 2020 when trans died. I replaced with a new family Explorer for a few months while I sorted things out (aka got the green light from my wife to get a new Mustang) My 06 was an auto....new GT/CS is a stick. I haven't driven a stick on regular basis since 1990! Glad I made that choice, it's a blast. I see a lot of older guys driving vettes but that's just not in my dna. For me it was Mustang...no other choice.

I haven't read the full thread, but to me Mustang/Camaro have always been more youth and the Corvette/Ferrari/Caddy crowd has always been the old grandpa cars. And that's coming from a guy that grew up when Fast and the Furious tuner culture was huge, and everyone wanted the Nissan Skyline due to seeing it in video games. I always loved Mustangs but I remember when a buddy traded a Neon SRT-4 for a C5 Vette and I thought he was weird as hell for doing it.

I mean I'd still rather have a low milage Mint SRT-4 over a low milage mint C5. IMO the best part of the C5 is pop-up headlights.

I really don't give much thought of what others may think of me and my car. I'm near the end of my career and too old to care lol. If we go out with a smile, then that's a part of what matters in the end.

Oh man. I have a standing agreement with my wife that when C5/C6 Z06 prices plummet (all of those mint garage queens will see the light of day eventually) I can get one to replace my miata. The 2002 was a 3,100 lb car with a 400 HP engine, the C6 replacement was like 500 for the same weight. Those have to be super fun to drive.

I didn’t know 63 was middle aged as I still act like a kid…I’m fairly new to Mustang scene having bought my wife a new 2015 EB and then selling it when we retired to get the GT…I’ve been into Harleys since I was in my teens and currently own three.

Meanwhile I'm looking at picking up a low milage 1990 Miata as I'm more in the mood for a light weight, lower power corner tosser lately.

Those are "old guy" cars because young men can't afford them and when people reach their 30s and can likely finally start to afford them, they typically have kids and need back seats (hence, Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, etc.). That's why I'm in a '21 ZL1 and not a '19 Z06, although by many accounts the ZL1 has a better, more balanced, and well-behaved chassis, and the far superior 10 speed auto trans. vs the 8 speed in the C7 Z06. If I had gotten a Z06 it would have been the manual.
