Costco buys the cheapest fuel possible, then add the bare minimum additive package.
Maybe in Canada but in the US all the refineries send the refined gas to distribution tanks then tankers get fuel from those tanks and off to the shell, then BP then costco.......

The EPA sets the base gas formula for each region. All refiners have to meet that formula exactly. The additive packages are added when the truck fills up.

The only diffrence is the delivery to Shell gets it's add pack from the pump marked Shell. Same for BP, Sunoco, VP ect......

I think it is St. Louis that has 5 different formulas just for the city. Depending on where in the city you buy gas your formula will change.
Bureaucracy at it's finest.

There seems to be a lot of mis-conception and mis-understanding in a lot of posts. The issue of regular vs premium really only applies to n/a and untuned vehichles.
TRUE:
1) The factory setup and tune of the 5.0 is for regular gas, its stated in numerous places. The engine management system can take advantage of higher octane to increase performance. I've only been able to find documentation up to 91, don't know how much advantage 93 has.
2) The advertised hp rating of the 5.0 of 460 hp is from premium gas although you have to find and read the fine print.
3) All fuel within a octane rating is similar, the difference is in the additives. Top Tier rated brands have their advantage in additive packages and burn cleaner, the base gas is still the same.

FALSE:
1) The engine management system does not retard timing for 87 although it will retard if it senses knock. Reference back to True #1 no matter what grade of fuel the system will advance timing until it senses knock, that is why even within like grades some brands of even same brands will run better at times.

CONCLUSION:
Above all their are always differences between individual cars as far as performance, less nowadays due to electronics, fuel injection, etc. Yes some cars do not run as well as others on 87. Again anyone with a tune, SC, or TC is not part of this discussion.

From 87 to 89 tonight was a 44 cent difference in nj

lol totally got judged by this older guy who was a gas attendant at wawa today. unfortunately in nj we can’t pump our own gas (absolutely stupid) and i said fill her regular please, and he was like, what, regular? don’t you mean like super? i was like no man, regular, it’s already 3.35 a gallon 🤣🤣🤣 so yeah guy totally judged me bc he asked me like two times if i said fill it regular. lol. feel like they all judge me!
