Custom driving light grill and tri bars fitted

Some of you may have noticed with my other posts I like nods to the classics. I really missed the grill mounted driving lights from my s197so decided to go about making my own. I am not the first to do this so don’t want to steal the credit for the original idea.

I also fitted tri-bars at the same time and vinyl to the front to give the grills a joined look similar to the GT500 but without spending upwards of £1600 for a new painted bumper.

I did this while also fitting the oil cooler.

I did obviously reseal the wiring after that last photo.

Tri-bars also do sequential indicators. No fogging of the lenses at all as they are fully sealed. No outward sign the lights have been opened even with the bonnet open as the boards are inserted from the underside. I was always shocked how much people charged to do the tri-bar mod and at how poorly it was often done. It really isn't that hard!

Way back when I did my tribars you had to swap 2 wires around in the new drl harness plug. The issue was that the tribars were supposed to be dimmed when the headlights were on and bright when the headlights were off. Unfortunately, the opposite occurred. I cannot tell from your photos if your drls are bright or dimmed. If you are on top of this issue then good. I don't know if Diode Dynamics ever rectified the issue. Otherwise its worth a check. Also my T Taps became faulty after a few months and I had to solder the connections. Many others say to do this too. At least you don't have to remove the bumper to get in there and re do the connections if you want to. Congrats on a good job. Like the grill.

To be honest I was a bit disappointed that the wiring was clearly for US cars despite being a “Euro” kit. The kit also didn’t mention brighter or dimmer settings so I will have to do a bit more research.

The t lock clips were purely used due to me being in a rush and I do intend on soldering in the future .

Yeah, just get someone to turn the headlights on and off while you watch. If the tribars dim when the headlights are on then you are all good. If not I found it easiest to swap the red and white wires around in the attached photo. Can't remember if I took this photo before or after I did the swap. Just stick a pin down the front of the plug and the connector pops out the back.

i really need to look into the tri bar mod and since my front drivers DRL and indicator lens is cracked, might as well upgrade them as well. OP, car looks nice

And yes I swapped the red and white wires around and got the dimmer with headlights on, brighter with them off as a result. it really is a shame the instructions are so lacking!
