OK... I'll preface this by saying that I just sold my 2019 F150 Raptor back to the dealership that sold it to me new 2 years and a month ago with 26,400 miles on it for precisely what I paid for it less the sales tax which was minimal because I traded in a 4runner and a Jeep for it. So essentially I drove it almost for free all that time for less than a hundred dollars a month. I'm gonna label that free.

Here's my thought on my new 2020 Mustang Premium 401A package I just bought.

We all know that electric cars and trucks are the vehicles of the future and that future will arrive way sooner than we originally expected. I'm thinking that it won't be but a few years before gas powered sports muscle cars with great sounding exhaust will be harder and harder to find and production of new ones may even be outlawed. That may make our late model Mustangs instant classics because NOTHING sounds as good as the roar of a Mustang GT!

So... Back to the original topic of my message. Will we be able to sell late model Mustang GT's for as much as or possibly more than we paid for them in a few years? I think there's a distinct possibility. That doesn't mean that I bought my Mustang as an investment but I certainly am looking at that possibility favorably.

I know... This post may be looked at as blasphemy by many of us but it IS food for thought eh?

The rarer models maybe, but I do not think for the majority of them like the GT. The reason your raptor got such a high trade in, is due to the current market. This time next year you will not see that kind of value. Personally I think a lot of dealers are going to loose a lot of money in the long run due to inflated prices

Agreed. This is a temporary supply bubble. It may not be corrected by end of 2021, but I would bet we see a drop in used car values before the end of 2022.

I think the odds are good that it's a temporary bubble in prices. However, if car companies start making really crappy cars that are inconvenient and expensive, people may avoid buying new cars. This could cause the value of the preferred used cars to go up or to stay higher.

I know that's why my last two car purchases were used vehicles. I like small cars, and Ford stopped making the Fiesta ST. I prefer the gearing and engine in the 2017 and earlier Mustang GTs over the newer ones as well.

If all that Ford offers are cars like the Mach E, I'm not going to buy a new Ford. So - at that point it really depends on how many other people feel like me.

IF the next generation Mustang is awesome and has a bigger V8 CI gas engine with better gearing in it.. and if the car gets smaller not appreciably larger.. and if the car is lower to the ground not higher up.. and if the price of a new Mustang is reasonable..

if all those things happen, people will flock to the next generation Mustang GT and buy lots of them. And the current cars will go down in value.

If the next generation Mustang has no manual transmission, hybrid or electric only, no NA V8 option, weighs 4,000+ lbs, the base price goes up to $55K or more, (you get the idea), then the S550 Mustangs will retain a lot more value. This is my opinion - your results may vary.

Low mileage mustang GT’s have always been valuable and collectible.

You are right, but not the extent to drive the car for free. Some currently are selling used at or above original sticker.

This is mostly due to the chip shortage. People here are uninformed. This chip shortage will be here for years because It takes years to build chip factories and demand is increasing. Both the communications and A/V industry are decimated due to it, but no one seems to care.
Think about that the next time you see connected toe nail clippers for sale.

Oh they will care when they can’t get the new iPhone/Android in the fall or when there are less TVs for sale on Black Friday. Lol

I have been thinking along these lines for a few months now.

Should I sell mine at these high prices and put a deposit down for the last model 2022 gt model and keep it as a low km forever car, or wait for the s650 as long as it's a v8 manual and sounds the same

It took the better part of two year’s to reach this level of ridiculousness. I think it’ll take at least that long to correct itself. So yea you might be able to drive the car for free for another year or two.

I want to know when my used Apple gadgets will command silly money like the idiots laying out the cash for used cars to plug their inventory holes and the same idiots who are buying same used car for 15%-20% more than the damn thing sold new….
