Trying to understand the mpg. I know the M1 isn't a fuel economic vehicle, but when I fill the tank, the display says 180 miles until empty. Given that the tank holds 16 gallons, that means I'm getting 11.25 mpg. It it me or what's the deal here?

Well if the spec. says the tank holds 16 gallons and that the combined mpg is spec-ed at 18mpg, I would expect after a filled tank to see 288 miles until empty, no?

I get about 15 around town. I drive pretty conservative most of the time as well.

When I first got my GT, the display read closer to 100 on its first full fill up. Probably due to its life to that point (a 2 year old car with 7800 miles- probably just getting started and moving 100 feet here and there for the last year). After I started driving it like a normal person it was closer to what I expected the next time I filled up. Best as I can tell, it will calculate the average MPG over the *current* tank and show that on the *next* fill up as miles till empty. I hope my explanation makes sense.

So, that would imply I'm getting around 11.25mpg? (180/16)

So, does your dash say 240 miles to empty? Mine says 180.
Good question ... so just checked for ya. Mine has 3/4 of a tank, and it says 178 miles to empty.
So I see what you are getting at ...

use your trip1 to actually measure. and reset your MPG displays. Mine says 320 miles when I fill up. I routinely get 21mpg

If you warm up your car Alot or just idle the car for extended periods of time that will affect your reading. I usually reset mine if I'm doing a trip so that I can see the average I'm doing on the fill ups on the drive

Does resetting that gauge affect the miles until empty display or you're suggesting I clock the miles between fill up and do my own calculation of mpg from those two numbers?

Also, you're 320 miles means you're getting 20mpg.

both. There's a MPG tracker on the Trip computer, there's another '30 minute' trend one, and also an 'instant' gauge. I get between 20 and 21.5 on the 30 minute trend graph.

reset them all by holding down the OK button.
Does your fuel level gauge track correctly given fuel burned and miles supposedly traveled?
