And some more:

Ford honestly has never used a new model code for a facelift/MCE, so it's significant? By now are they done designing the new body I imagine, if they were working on that 15 months ago.

Maybe for 2021 we'll get some minor changes? Then the big change in 2 years. Probably will start seeing mules testing later this year.

As I mentioned in another thread a month back or so you’ll see the mule camo out in about 2021. Final preparations are being conducted for the upcoming summer.

In terms of mule, I believe the first verification cars will be next year, but the first units testing in S550 body mules should be this year right?

Kinda like this in 2012:

The real deal 1 year later:

Production 15 months later:

I cannot get into specifics as to month but you got the jist I think ;)

isn't s650 still a reworked S550 at the end of day?
Sorta...It’ll be more different than what occurred between (for example) the 2010 GT s197 and the 2013 GT s197. Those two were pretty similar hence the same code name. You’re getting more goodies across the board in terms of power, comfort, and options on a varied platform.

Both S197 and S550 still use D2C, unfortunately so will S650. At least I think that this is corrrect. So basically 1994 Mustang all over again? Warranting a new model code is significant, as the 1999 model and 2010 model years never warranted that. They retained the SN-95 and S197 codes.

On a side note, I've always wondered if "95" in SN-95 referred to Ford thinking the car could be delayed and not arrive until later in 1994 as a '95 model, designated it as such in 1989/90, but ended up arriving earlier than planned circa Xmas 1993 as a '94 model (GT sold from January 1994)? Possibly.

A fully 101% ground up Mustang needs to be spaced out for this car to bring ROI for 4 years at least or be CD6 indeed. The latter is not likely, but probably ideal.

The 2010 Mustang was really a belated '09 model I found out and took a really long time to launch, as they developed it really early on (knew what it looked like in 2005). Yet, same model code. What is the S550 really in that respect? 1993 vs 1994 Mustang? Or is that the S550 vs S650 pretty much?

The 2013MY was probably meant to bridge a gap between the looks of the S550 and pre-2012 S197. Like one guy reported, they're echoing the life of the Fox-based Stangs from mid-1978 to mid-2004. By the time production ends, the D2C would've entered production in September 2004, a full 2 decades prior. Not a good look in my opinion.

the SN-95 was called as such. The S stood for small specialty unit. The N, North America operates. And the 95 was from fords sequence numbering system on their lineup of approved ready to launch programs.

I see, just a coincidence then that '95 was close to the model year? PN-96 for the F-Series released in 1996, made me curious about that. Both of them (SN-95 & PN-96) were started in 1989, so it makes a lotta sense.

SN-95 Mustang was early-mid 1989 (based sketches), PN-96 truck was started in November 1989 (per lead engineer). What a thing to learn.

This is a great find, thank you for sharing. I'm amazed, given Ford's usual secrecy, that they'd put such specific info such as model years, launch dates and chassis codes in a job description, but I'm glad they have! :)

I’m not a rumor person. Could we see a lighter steel or aluminum body? Could a hybrid and electric bring AWD? I’ve heard rumors from decently reputable people the S650 will be 200-300lbs lighter than current model in gas only form, or at least one variation of the car will be light weighted. Weight savings for hybrids and EVs would be negated by batteries.

Both S197 and S550 still use D2C, unfortunately so will S650.
People seem to confuse program code and platform all the time.
SN95, S197, S550, S650 are programs.
FOX, D2C were the platforms, which have gone through changes over the years to update them.
