Don, that’s OK. Honestly you really are too young to “get” it. Mustang is more than a name, it is a culture.

I hope that there is something in your future that you fall in love with and never want to change. Then it does. At that point you will “get” it.
Ooooff. Listen bikeman, to say someone is too young to get it is such a ridiculous dig. You know what's funny? The older I get the less I care about material stuff. And you know what? I love my mustang but it's just another material possession. If you're as old and wise as you claim to be I'd hope you've found happiness elsewhere. At least to the point of major blue Chip companies not being able to play with your emotions because of a brand.

Sorry but let's put into focus how little any of this matters. Also you could make the argument that the machE stands to reinvigorate the mustang fanbase and bring in new buyers to both the coupe and suv.

I remember a time back during the Fox body days when Ford was going to make the Mustang front wheel drive. Massive outpouring from the Mustang faithful and here we are today, 20 something years later with so many models to look back on with pride and heritage. None of which would have existed if Ford had taken the direction they were headed down. So voices can have an impact. Only difference I see here is that at least they are leaving the Mustang in its current configuration and adding a "variant" to its lineup.

Its not the end of the world because at least we do still have the Mustang....BUT this is not a Mustang and should NOT bear its name. I'm sure it will be great but it needs to great on its on.

Save 55 years of Mustang Heritage.
The Mach-E looks to be a great product! BUT naming any SUV a Mustang is wrong.

“Putting the name Mustang on an all-wheel-drive, four-door crossover is insulting to the Mustang clubs and Mustang enthusiasts who’ve supported this product for more than five decades. I’m imploring Ford to hear our voices and respect Mustang heritage and not bastardize it this way.”

Each of the stakeholders involved in naming this as a Mustang should have been made to watch A Faster Horse. It would have been clear that Mach E, as good as it'll ever be, should never be given the name of an icon.

Ford will not change the name , ive came to realize this. Not unless the top executives get moved around/canned within the very near future. It’s a damn shame , and a joke gone bad. The most we can do is hope this junker flops like a carp outa water. One, two years and the axe it, wouldn’t be so bad.

I once owned exactly this car, this color. Mine was a 77 but as far as I can tell they never changed anything about this version, not even the wheel covers.*

I enjoyed it a great deal. It was not, however, a very good car and cost me a lot to keep running for the eighteen years or so that I owned it.

Sorry not sorry.

*[Correction]: Ford did change the bumper trim strip. Instead of chrome plastic, my 77 had a black rubberized strip with raised white striping.

The Mustang II was great in my opinion FOR THE TIME. Very small car with a V8 engine squeezed in there. It definitely fits the Mustang legacy a lot better than an SUV with 4 doors.

Yes the styling isn't perfect. Yes the engine wasn't powerful (no engines were at that time).

But Ford sold a ton of them and they were a big success.

Sorry, I did not mean it as a dig. I just look around me and see that the younger generation doesn't put as much stock in "things" as past generations have. Collecting for instance. Stamps, coins, porcelain figures, etc. Where as once these were things many people did, today they are dying. Now yes, I claim to be old, but I'm not so sure about that wise part. I have found happiness in many other things, primarily family.

I actually am in total agreement with your last sentence. That's why I though we should kill the other thread. I think the Mach-E is actually going to save our Mustang for the foreseeable future. There are many others that do not see this, at least yet. Time, as always, will tell.

Oh, and enjoy your youth to the fullest. I doesn't last as long as you think it will.

Well hey man thanks for such a positive response. Sorry if I came off overly aggressive. I do feel you're right about younger generations and the lack of collecting. I suppose these things are cyclical. A couple generations collect a couple other live minimalist and the cycle keeps on turning.

If they discontinued our mustang then I wouldn’t be happy. I don’t mind sharing name plates but if we lost our 2 door I’d be ultimately disappointed.

But it’s a name. Why would ford ever discontinue its $$$ sportiest coupe ever made? It’s been a cash cow

Because it’s only 3.3% of overall sales. Hardly a cash cow. It also doesn’t really share anything with any other Ford vehicles which is critical to profits.

I’ve said this before, my belief is that the Mustang’s tenure would be short lived if not for Ford using the name for other vehicles.

Meh, the day after they discontinue the Mustang the value of all of our cars on the resale market starts climbing. :cwl:
