S550 Lap Times (Road Course)

My first time at LRP I only did a 1:05.3 with an ambient temp of 90+ back in June. I did the 1:00.66 on my second time there so I was really happy with the improvement.

what other tracks have you been to in the North East?

To date, (3) configurations of Pocono, New York Safety Track, Watkins Glen, NJMP Thunderbolt, NJMP Lightning, and Lime Rock of course . For 2020 I’d like to go to Palmer for a couple of days. VIR and Pitt Race would be great but the drive is 8 hours each way.

Finally, after 3 years I made it back to Barber just in time to try out the new pavement before the end of the season. The surface is smooth and it drives like COTA did when it was new pavement. The surface has decent grip but is dusty in places and not quite the peak grip it will have next year after the track is seasoned a bit. I had a hard time braking at the limits, thank goodness for ABS. There are a few dips and undulations in the surface that I do not remember from before the repaving. The traffic was crazy as they may have overbooked the sessions a bit. After the first day I felt like there was a mid 1:36.xx in the car but I was not able to bust into the 36's. Always one of the funnest tracks Barber continues to be one of the best maintained and professional level track facilities in the country, If you have not gone you should. (PS.... bring your Dramamine)

Thanks, it was nice getting to chat with you, let me know if you need any help sorting out the rear suspension. I gave it a little more thought after we talked and it sounds to be like the alignment in the rear is off, specifically the rear toe. I am guessing your car has a thrust angle over 1-2 degree from poor tow settings. The other issue to double check is to look at the rear toe link to knuckle bushing, they are a bit fragile and can cause some crazy toe changes under acceleration and braking if they are worn. If they even look a little suspect change them to the Ford Performance replacement bearings M-5A460-M is the part number. They are cheap and worth every penny.

Getting more comfortable with the car and working on technique. I hope to upgrade the rotors and select a good track pad this year. Eventually I would like to add a little boost from a Vortech V-3 Si. I finally got a GoPro...just need to figure out the best setup so I can make those cool videos for YouTube

720-30 with spot metering for looking down the track is what I use (Hero 2, I've had it a while). That's 1280 wide x 720 high, 30 frames/second, 170° horizontal field of view in case the newer GoPro cameras call it something different. You don't need lots of vertical, which makes for a lot of fisheye distortion. Spot metering helps keep the darker car interior from causing everything out the windshield from being washed out.


Even 720-30 shows some fisheye, but at least it's confined to the corners and you can pretty much ignore it when watching. The bridge does not curve on the near side only.
