Honestly if just to make money now is the best time to get rid of it, but I don't think I'd EVER be able to sell that car if I owned it. Not just because of what it is, but how long its been in the family. To me by this point it would be a family member to me.

I would have sold it ~ a year ago and not waited until now.

Heck, I think the original owner was dumb for ignoring Steve McQueen when he wanted to buy it years ago. He could have been a lot better off having the money than letting the car rot in his garage.

I'd sell too. Wouldn't even bat an eye.

Really, the thing belongs in a museum so anybody can appreciate it.

I thought he said he would never sell it.

I posted this on same subject matter in the Bullitt sub-forum on here:

That sucks... really.

Sean should just hold on to it, he has the best ideology in keeping the car AS IS and really understands the importance of retaining its history. Hopefully money is not the primary driver in the decision...

I’d hate to see Bullitt auctioned and end up in the hands of some schmo with more money than brains, just so they can say “I own it” and it gets “restored” to something it should not be.

If anything at all, at the absolute bare minimum - Chad McQueen should end up with it, the legacy belongs to his Father and the McQueen estate. After all Steve McQueen tried desperately to get Bullitt back before his unfortunate passing. If that’s not an option then it should go into the Mustang Museum so it can still be shared with the Automotive Communities, Movie Enthusiasts, Auto Enthusiasts and Ford Mustang Hobbyists world wide.

I think it's fine for the family to sell the Bullitt. They may have a need ford the money or just the realization that they will never be able to drive the car in public because of all the notoriety and that the car would be doomed to sit in a garage and die a slow death. I do think and hope the new owner will leave it in it's original unrestored state a true survivor is rare. It would be hard but if I had the car and had the chance to make 3mil I would.

Agree it would be great to see it in a museum and properly taken care of.
