Yep. I'll only start worrying around the 36k mark when warranty is about to expire. That's about 34k miles away though so if it blows now it only costs time and headache. I wouldn't look forward to another break in though. Governing your habits sucks. Maybe there will be a recall or answer at some point as to what the sounds are. Till she leaves me stranded, all is good.
I would think 60K would be the point of no return as this would fall under the Powertrain warranty not the bumper to bumper one or whatever they call it now.

Good call. Although either way I'm sure the shady stealerships will attempt to get out of whatever they can.

Ya know, I haven't seen that at all. I've had dealership service departments do very well by me. They want to do any and all warranty work they can, they make serious $$ on it.

Sales departments......on the other hand.....

I'm going to be buying an extended warranty in a couple months as it's super cheap and I don't drive much.

You should have been beating on it from the start. Red-line it right off the lot.

I'm not kidding. Babied engines tend to become oil-burners. The best break-in is driving it like you stole it. Heat and pressure are what new engines need to break-in properly. Especially with new engine manufacturing techniques.

Really, why does Ford continue putting crap in their owner's manuals from the days of flat-tappet cam engines?
I didn't even read the manual for break-in procedures in mine. Started it up when I picked it up new, let it warm up while talking with the sales guy, then hit the redline before I got to the first light. 14K miles now, no ticks, no rattles, no oil consumption. Car had under 5 miles on it when I picked it up.

It varies by dealership for sure. My Mini had the best service department I've ever had the pleasure to deal with and they did all the oil changes and every little thing to the car for me. My wifes honda is the polar opposite. I now do the maintenance on her car myself because that place has given us nothing but run arounds and door dings. Before the Mini, I had a Raptor and it was just like my wifes dealership so I did my own maintenance. I bought the mustang at a different dealership and they've already done some warranty work and it worked out okay. So far my experience with them has been great all around but I'm still gun shy. I do my own maintenance on my mustang now mostly because I like to do it. Having access to a lift also helps a TON. I try not to be the crazy and/or nit picky guy but utterly fail sometimes. This mustang has completely stolen my heart and it'll be really hard not to shoot the person who accidentally door dings it.

It is more proof that the break in procedures in the manual aren't absolutely needed. There are exceptions to everything though. Maybe if I did the same to my car, I wouldn't have the noises I do. Or maybe mine would have exploded on its way to redline before that first light. Either way, I enjoyed the hell out of my drive to work today and count down the minutes before I get to drive home. I think only a winning lotto ticket can make my day even better lol.
