I got the 2019 Bullitt on my lift the other day to do a general inspection aftrer delivery and noticed the bright yellow oil drain plug pictured below. This plug looks different from the oil change guides I have seen for slightly older (2015-ish?) Mustangs where the oil drain plug looks more like a traditional black, round plug. Does this yellow oil drain plug require a special tool to remove? It doesn't look like it would be removable with a socket or wrench. Thanks in advance for your help.

Just turn it ccw with your fingers, pull it out and get out of the way of 10 quarts of hot oil draining horizontally :crying:

12 quarts...but yeah.
it's possible to put 12 quarts in the Bullit's sump, but it will be overfilled by 2 quarts. Definitely not recommended.

It's the same as in any other 18+ Mustang or 17+ (?) F-150. Twist it with your hands, just be ready for a really strong stream of oil as the hole diameter is increased vs. what it used to be. I created quite a bit of a mess this way...

The new drains are a really good thing. Solves almost every problem a drain valve does (won't get stripped, won't leak, tool-less) except sending the oil thru a hose to eliminate oil splatter.

Wait . . . 12 quarts? I thought the consensus was put in 9 quarts then start putting in more till you reach the full mark on the dipstick with the 10th quart. At leats that's what my dealer told me. Thanks for clarifying!

Wow, a twist lock drain plug. Very cool and thank you FoMoCo! Based on the comments above, I trust it is not necessary to buy a spare drain plug in case the rubber gasket goes bad? On my last Ford (a Fiesta ST), a bought a few spares and had to use a handful over the 5 years I had the car.

If you're going to purchase a spare drain plug "just in case", you may wish to order the earlier version of the plug that has a 3/8" square inset for a socket extension. I was told too many people over torqued them or turned them the wrong direction, and tore off the stops...Ford re-designed the part to be "tool-less" and perhaps idiot proof

I was mistaken. I believed it took 12 and the pre 18's took 10. It is actually pre 18's take 8 and post 18's are at 10.
