For the record you are questioning the 10 speed reliability while saying that you think the 6 speed manual is reliable? Driving dynamics aside, there's no way the 6 speed is better at anything unless you are talking about a Shelby.

Also I don't see how its overrated when it performs on par with full bolt on and tuned 15-17s. Driving dynamic wise, its not a DCT on a race track but its more than adequate on a back road with some twisty corners. Its more fun there than my old 6 speed manual car. I don't think the A6 could come anywhere close to it especially having driven both.
I get what your saying, my thoughts on the reliability is because it’s relatively a new tranny. Time will tell if they’re gonna hold up. I didn’t say the M6 is more reliable, just saying I’d be more interested or inclined to buy a M6 over an A10 if I was going to purchase a new one. I’m not arguing the A10 isn’t faster, it just doesn’t interest me. As far as overrated, how many times have people raved over something new then in several years they trade for something else or call it a POS. And it may be all that, I just have my doubts.

Let's face it. Purchases are like dogs. Everyone has the best one. I do.

At first, I was resistant to have so many gears. I still think it could be overkill when paired with an engine with a lot of low end torque. It doesn't seem to help the torquey Camaro nearly as much as it does the higher revving Coyote.

I have had some experience with the 10 speed in an Ecoboost F150. It is probably good for towing but for just normal driving, I don't see much advantage over the 6 speed in that application. The 3.5 ecoboost is a torque monster and doesn't really care what gear it is in.
I think the big advantage to the A10 is reflected in the 0-60 time. I think the 0-60 time has more to do with the transmission than it does the increase in power from the Gen III engine. I've added at least 60 crank hp over stock on my 2015, but I bet you I would not be able to get near 4.0 0-60. With forced induction I probably could but then that's a whole 'nother story isn't it.

The 10 speed auto is already in 3rd at 60.

In drag mode, the A10 shifts with no torque management from the ecu. It is like shifting a manual with the accelerator floored. That does wonders for acceleration.

It shifts way faster than any manual could.

Absolutely. Here is a quote from a Ford engineer:

Typically, when you shift gears, you give up time," said Carl Widmann, Mustang chief engineer in a release. "In Drag Strip mode, the engine torque doesn't drop when you're shifting. You get peak engine torque and horsepower straight through thanks to our new Ford-built 10-speed transmission."

This chart showing 10R80 vs MT82 shifting shows it all. The 10R80 gains speed on each shift, while the MT82 loses speed on each shift!

Keep in mind the 10 speed only uses all 10 gears at WOT
More like at 1/2-3/4 WOT because it hits the speed limiter in 7th gear at WOT. But I know what you meant.

I don’t understand why people are ragging on it for having ā€œtoo many gears.ā€ It has as many gears as needed for the driving conditions. It is actually an A10/9/8/7/6/5-speed transmission.

Ed, you are absolutely right. I misspoke when I said "WOT."
