I have a 2016 V6 AT with 9500 miles on it and just a couple hours ago it started smelling like sulfur in the cabin on the slightest fuel input. I installed bbk shorty headers a month ago and replaced the resonator with a x-pipe along with a muffler delete almost 2 weeks ago. I googled the issue and it seems it might be my cat... I'm afraid it might be because of the mods I installed, but why would it get damaged by any of those mods in the first place? One thing I noticed is my mustang backfires (the bang not the normal crackles and pops) quite often when I let of the gas at higher rpms and from what I've understood from the internet those can hurt the cats. I'm not sure if it did that with the mufflers and res on since these pretty much kill the exhaust note anyways, although I could hear a very faint bang from time to time. Also, a week ago the passenger side header seemed like it was leaking but I took it to a muffler shop and got it fixed quick, a bolt was loose... not sure if this has anything to do with the sulfur smell but I figured I should mention it.

Any ideas what the issue might be?

The source of any rotten egg/sulfur smell inside my car is usually me.

The smell got worse when I picked my friend up, so maybe it was him all along?

I have noticed this on my 16' gt. Usually after a spirited run. Seems to smell the strongest in the trunk. My car has Roush axle backs and on more than one occasion have backfired. Louder than the usual crackle like you said. No cels. Power does seem down though.

Mine started to smell just as I took off lightly after a cold start and kept smelling of sulfur when stepping on the gas with everything warmed up, which is what's worrying me.

It sounds like maybe it's running rich, might check the fuel pressure. Has your gas mileage dropped at all? As mentioned, catalytic converters going bad also smell.
