I think your '15 - 17 trans will be fine. The '18+ MT82 is totally different with a different gear set, different 1:1, and different input and output sets.
There have been issues with the MT-82 since it was introduced. I'm not that worried about mine, and I'm certainly not hard on it, but if it ever lets go, I can pick up used MT-82s for cheap all day, and build something a little stronger. Since I'm not racing it, I have no real need to step up to a TR-6060 or Magnum XL.

It's just annoying that after all these years, Ford still hasn't gotten this thing right, or switched to a better transmission.

The TR3160 is 100% mechanically incompatible with the Coyote engine and the available gear sets from Tremec are a poor match to the Coyote.

I meant just move to a tremec obviously the 8200rpm voodoo engine and gear ratios in that tremec would be a poor match.

Can’t believe Ford is letting the Mustang go down the tubes like this. A/c issues, transmission issues, engine issues...fucking A. Have some pride in your brand and flagship car. I don’t use a manual, but this car should not have broken from what he was doing.

You can see in the video, he's gorilla-shifting like a moron. Look at the force he's putting into the shifter, he's using every bit of strength he has.

No wonder he broke the shift fork, he's watched Fast N Furious a few too many times.
he said quick shift, but the video shudders during the shifts, gritting teeth, etc. That type of "quick shift" doesn't leave the synchro any time to synchronize. On the other hand, considering its a Mustang with Track Apps and 1/4 mile timers, some people are going to shift like that. It will need stronger shift forks than say, a Mazda 6. He's also testing 100 to 0 braking, at 600 miles, which is probably inside the break in period.

Broken shift forks on a BONE STOCK car from using a track application provided by Ford (built into the car, nonetheless).

Embarassing.

You must not know who Alex is, he works for Lund Racing as a tuner and formerly worked for VMP. He's also won multiple stick shift class races in his VMP blown S197 GT. I'm pretty sure he understands how a manual transmission works.

He's not a typical youtube car vlogger, I know we have a few of those around here so it's easy to assume.

I do find it kind of funny that this happened to him so soon since he said in one of his last videos he assumed people were getting locked out by the clutch and forcing the car into gear. I believe it was this video where he talked about that

My '11 car had clutch bolts back out. I'm definitely no stranger to the driveline complications. That said, after a fluid swap and that warranty fix, I had zero issues with my trans for 5+ years. I wasn't exactly nice to it granted I wasn't brutally abusive either.

Blows my mind that

1. Ford doesnt just put the GT350 trans in these and punt the garbage MT82.
2. People still but MT82 cars with all the known issues no matter what year or gen MT82 it is they all suck.
3. 10 speed the world
yup, and the manual trans guys will defend the MT82 til death even though it's proven itself to be weak unreliable and an embarrassment all around.

You must not know that I DGAF who he is, as it's not important. He gorilla shifted, he used a lot of muscle and force to shift, when it was absolutely un-necessary, and broke his transmission. It's in the video, it's plain to see. I'm not disagreeing that the MT82-4 trans has shift forks that are weaker than they used to be. But this guy KNEW they were weak, and still gorilla-shifted his transmission and broke it.

Look at his face when he shifts, it looks like he's intentionally trying to break his transmission. People that run manual transmissions well don't use excessive force, and use the same amount of force every shift. They don't Hulk-out on the shifter because they're trying to accelerate fast.

So you're giving this one a pass? A 600 mile transmission is okay to break because you're intimidated by the guy having muscles and shifting? LMAO. If Ford's intent on designing is that close to failure of an aluminum part that "hulk shifting" breaks their trans, that whole car will fall apart within 30000 miles. I "hulk shifted" my 05 Mustang GT more times than I can count, didn't break. Same with my Boss 302, and my GT350.

Wait until it hits a pothole. LMAO.

Woah woah guys....point of the thread was that A. Someone actually caught a shift fork going in a brand new car and B. for information and a good following source for those who have broken their transmission regardless of if tinkerbell shifted it or Godzilla did and what happens next.

Frankly, I don't think Alex shifted his car THAT hard. Aggressive? Eh, sure. But it didn't look abusive by any means. I've accidentally banged my previous '11 Coyote car into 1st from 5th (meant to hit 3rd) and she survived just fine. Wouldn't want to do it again but if anything should have broken my trans.............

If you watch the video before this one he talks about not Gorilla shifting the car and forcing it into gear. He even says that people breaking transmissions don't know how to shift etc. One of his earlier videos he goes through how to shift an MT82 that he had on an S197 Coyote for 140k(?) miles. I have to agree with you that most of the idiots on YouTube are just that, idiots. But Alex knows his stuff. If his trans broke on this car, it more than likely wasn't human error.

dude Ford already addressed the fork issue.

There was a bad batch of them that were casted during late 2017 - early 2018.

Alex's car was built in January. So it falls right into that window.

He was not gorilla shifting.
