So this year has been pretty rough. I had 5 surgeries in 3.5 months. 3 of those lead to me losing my hip and having total hip replacement at 27 years old. The other two were within about 2 weeks after having total hip replacement and they were the removal of my gallbladder and clearing stones from my bile duct. YAY.....

Long story short, I have always done 95% of my own work. I'm planning on doing the '18 intake manifold conversion with lockouts on my '15 GT PP as well as a PMAS CAI (tune required version). With that being said, these installs should be a cakewalk and my current range of motion with my hip shouldn't affect me getting the job done. I really don't want to cough up money for a simple install, but the main concern really comes down to if I can actually drive the car about 35 miles after the installation to the dyno. I have driven a cammed, headswapped, 2" headers and catless mids, and a CAI C6 Z06 90 miles one way to the dyno with zero issues (other than rough idle ) , but all cars/brands are different and I've seen people really complaining about start up, etc. after the swaps before tune.

Is there anyone that has done anything similar and was able to drive <45 minutes to a local dyno to be tuned? Or do ya'll think just let someone do the work at the shop that would be doing the tune since it might be 1-2 hours of work and maybe ~$150 labor?

If it's not tuned IMRCs being locked out, it will have several codes and will operate quite poorly. Who's tuning it?

I drove for a week on a stock tune with locked out 18 mani, headers, and cai. It wasn't fun obviously but it got me from A to B just fine. I obviously wouldn't get on it at all and there will be drive ability difficulty, coupled with a CEL from multiple codes, but 45 minutes should be a cake walk imo.

Bmac, It's still to be determined. I'm down to two local shops that tune high HP frequently. They aren't dedicated S550 tuners or anything like that though.

Thank you, Alec. This was exactly the kind of experience I was looking for. I was hoping the car could at least be limped ~25-~40 miles depending on the tuner I decide using. It's all highway/interstate, too. Very little stop and go involved.

Why not opt for an email tune?

https://www.lethalperformance.com/info/the-tune-shop-at-lethal-performance

Can't go wrong with any of them, look up reviews and go with what is best suits you.
Agreed. AED has been absolutely amazing to work with and will do even do remote sessions on your local dyno with you. Shaun's diligence and attention to detail is hard to match. I seriously, seriously doubt your local shop would provide a better overall tune. Lund or PBD would also be great options.

I was looking into this option, but on Lund's website I was reading where it's $400 for remote tuning and $250 after a 90-day grace period unless you buy-back in for $50 and then I'd need to buy the nGauge and rent a dyno to do it safely. I could be reading into this wrong, but that's expensive for a tune ~1,000.

Can someone verify that process?

I would definitely do the email tune btw. Lund, PBD, etc. have immense experience with these cars and there is little gain from a local tuner but a lot to lose. Also you don't need a dyno to log with the car; just find some open road.

An email tune will most likely be around the same price as local tuners. You'll still need the flashing unit for locals. All in all, regardless what you end up doing, expect to spend a pretty penny for the entire process ($1000 actually isn't that unreasonable, especially if you have quite a few mods to your car).

Attention to detail and thoroghness AED -Shaun had me log my stock tune to make sure no mechanical issues before sending me a base tune.Car drivability is like stock -18 manifold FF tune..

Another vote for Shaun @ AED He wouldn't even take me as a client needing a tune for a pending LTH install until I data logged stock. I have been going back and forth with him and he has been nothing short of great.

Absolutely zero drivability issues without the IMRCs hooked up on Shaun's tune.
