WTH! Factory 6-speed manual shift knob removal! PLEASE HELP?

Hi Guys,

Okay, so I am feeling really stupid right now, but is there a trick to removing the stock shift knob of a manual transmission car? Or, do I just twist hard counter clockwise? I feel like I'm going to break something. I thought this sucker would just thread right of easy peasy! Ya... NO! Any advice would be appreciated. There is no lock nut or anything is there? Thanks in advance guys!

It twists off counter clockwise, its just hard because there's thread locker in there to hold it on tight. Theres nothing to break, have a go at it.

Count how many turns off and put back on same amount. Make sure reverse lock out still moves easy.
Make sure you put thread locker on the threads when you reinstall the knob.

I just did this 2 days ago. I wrapped cardboard around the leather knob and used a Stilson pipe wrench. It loosened right away, no damage.

The factory must use more threadlocker or a different type now cause on my new 2015 it was very easy to break free but if I returned to the stock knob it would screw on to a different position. . Now when I mounted my Boomba knob the shift pattern ended up close enough to a stock position at end of thread.

Thanks Guys, had about 17 cocktails and just muscled it off with a pair of rubber palmed gloves on.
