It does, but they wanted a day to be able to verify the payoff with RAV, which I can understand. I’ve already been approved for the amount unneeded to finance, so it should be an easy process here on out. “Should”
Yeah, but still. Soooo close.

Trust me I know haha. The shitty part is it’s supposed to rain all day tomorrow. My blue car NEVER saw rain. Ever. I guess the first thing I’ll be doing once I get home is giving it a nice bath. Followed by a clay/polish/sealant lol

LOL, I daily mine so it sees rain, snow, salt...

Just think of it this way...it got rained on at the dealer so you'd have to do all that anyway.

If it makes you feel any better, while I have my car back, they didn't top the oil off completely. Looked on the dipstick like they shorted it about a quart, so i gotta top it off tomorrow after I stop and get some MC5w-20. *sigh*.

Yea.. but still lol my 2017 literally came off the car carrier and I bought it And took it home a few days after. Not sure if it saw rain in transport, but it didn’t look like it had after it was offloaded. No one drove that car other than the ford assembly plant and the offloader lol.

My 2018 was driven 150 miles from Ohio. I asked them to have it trailered, but they did a dealer trade so some lucky SOB drove my car . Prior to that, it was inside the dealers showroom in Ohio.

I’m lucky enough to have a cheap daily driver, which takes care of my to and from work duty. I’m a Purchasing Agent at an RV manufacturer, and parking in a parking lot full of line workers who don’t give a crap wouldn’t be ideal lol

Man I wish, the last couple I got all had 80+ miles on them when I took ownership. My 11 was a DX and driven 70 miles or so, my 16 was also DX'd and driven 40+. My 18 had like 105, and had been around since November. Still, there wasn't a swirl in the paint to be found anywhere, so at least the dealer didn't screw it up while washing it.

The only car we've ever gotten that was as new as your 17 was would be my wifes 2011 explorer, but we custom ordered that one. And we still have it..190k+ miles later.

Yea my 17 had like 5 miles on it when I test drove it. 15 Miles officially on the paperwork. My 18 had 163 on it when I drove it on Monday. At least it’s got SOME break in mileage on it. I was really hoping to make a track day this Saturday, but there’s no way I’ll have 1k miles on it by then.

My wife and I just had our third anniversary this week, and I promised to take her for dinner, so I’ll get a few hours behind the wheel this weekend at minimum lol

Any luck!?

Of course not. Lol.

I went to the dealer yesterday, signed all of the paperwork for the old and new car, put $2000 down. The GM of the dealer and new car manager want ford to confirm everything with the finance aspect before they will release the car to me. So, they called whatever department out in Colorado, faxed the paperwork in, and were trying to get them to give them the ok. I waited at the dealer for three hours, and they came back and said the person that processes all of that paperwork had already left for the day.

So, no.. I don't have my car. I understand to a point that they want to verify the money aspect of it, BUT, the old car was financed through ford, the new car is financed through ford, and all of the departments involved are ford owned.

The supervisor I spoke with on Wednesday told me that once they secure the financing, they are free to release the new car to me. Apparently that was a lie.

I was hoping to bring the car home, get it detailed and coated and ready for some break in miles to get put on it this weekend.

Before I left, the new car manager told me that they faxed everything over, as well as overnighting the original copies. He said that they open back up at 8:00 today, and he is going to call them to rush everything. He told me that normal turn around time is 24-72 hours. So I could still be without my car until mid next week at the worst.

I told my buddy that drove me up there yesterday that I am really regretting the decision to have the car replaced. I honestly should have just had them buy the 2017 back, and gone away from ford. If this is how they treat someone that has bought numerous vehicles from them, then its a damn shame.

I have not been compensated for my time or being without a car for over two months. Technically, Ford is coming out ahead on this deal. They don't have to title the old car with a lemon law title, they are going to re-sell it and make some money off of it, and Im paying more for the replacement vehicle(and because they dont allow rebates on a replacement vehicle I pay MSRP), so they will make some good coin off the new vehicle too.

Maybe my viewpoint will change once im driving the new car home, but at the moment, I have lost all faith in Ford motor company.

I will say this, the dealership has been GREAT to work with. I am not blaming them for any of this. They have had my salesperson, the new car manager, the finance manager, and the GM involved in this to try to speed the process up. This will be the third new car from this dealership in three years, and I would go back to them IF I ever decide to buy a new Ford again(which at this point is highly unlikely)

Word of advice on break in. Everyone seems to think they are an expert, but there is information in the owners manual about break in. I recall back when I first got my 2016 Ecoboost Mustang, I asked the dealer if there was anything and he said "there was nothing from Ford on break in procedures, but he recommended just not flooring it until after a couple thousand".

I read through the service manual (skimmed more like it) and found a single paragraph on break in procedures. It simply said to avoid lugging the engine, vary RPMs as much as possible (don't run it at a single RPM while cruising) and to not go over 5,000 RPM or WOT for the first 1,000 miles.

That first 1,000 miles is cruicial for the piston rings to seat properly. If you don't seat your rings properly, it won't ruin the engine outright, but you might be a bit down on power (lower compression) and you most certainly will have higher oil consumption.

My Ecoboost used 1/2 of quart in 10,000 miles with a Ford Performance tune, inter cooler and driving the lining piss out of it every day. My GT on the other hand, uses about 1/2 every 5,000 miles, which to me sounds about right if it was broken in properly (I got it as a Ford Certified Used car with 5,500 on the clock). 2x as many cylinders, with the same consumption rate per a cylinder, that 1s quart every 10,000 miles, so about the same as the Ecoboost which I did follow break in procedures.

It's in the manual for a reason :D

On the 2018 owners manual, the only thing I read is that:

the brakes and clutch to avoid heavy use for the first 100 miles on in town driving, and 1000 miles of freeway driving.

and to avoid driving too fast the first 1000 miles, vary speed frequently and change up through the gears early, dont labor the engine.

It doesnt say specifically to shift before a certain rpm, but Ill baby it for the first 1000 miles to let everything break in.

If I ever get the car

That's basically what I did. I think it also specifically asks you not to use cruise, or at least I remember it saying that. I took mine on a 400 mile road trip week two, but I varied my speed all the time (which I'm sure drove people behind me crazy) and would occasionally switch between 5th and 6th to ensure I never stayed at one RPM too long.

Anyway, that sucks about the finance mess. Can the dealership let you take the car on a "weekend test drive" while they wait? I've had local dealerships let me take cars for a couple of days before when I was having a hard time deciding between models. I was respectful with the distance I drove, but in your case it would seem like even that shouldn't matter.

Nope, they want to make sure that Ford has all their ducks in a row first.

Thanks for putting your story out here for folks like me to learn from. I'm sorry you have to go through this. But I wanted to let you know that this has helped me a lot as I start on the same road. My initial plan was to get a replacement through Ford. But after reading about your experience, I will be going straight through BBB on a buyback once I hit the 30 day mark next Sunday. Thanks again!

Glad I can help. I cant speak on anything lemon law related, so I honestly don't know if that is going to be a faster route to go. Depends on the state and laws from my understanding.

For the $43,000 that I just signed paperwork for yesterday ON THE NEW CAR, there are PLENTY of other options out there. Used Vettes, used vipers, etc etc

Not to mention that I will STILL have the fear of an unreliable car. I see a handful of 2018's having issues, and it makes me not want to load my wife or (soon to be) kid in the car.

Hell, I have a 2001 buick century that I got as a beater car to drive to and from work to save the mustang from miles, door dings, bad weather, etc etc. That frickin buick has seen twice the mileage if not three times as much as my 2017, and its never let me down. I have more faith in that car than I do the mustang at this point lol.
