I was recently rear ended by a distracted driver at a red light. Thankfully it wasn't bad at all, and it looks like I'll just need a new rear bumper. I'm wondering if I can get an 18 gtpp bumper put on instead, with space for quad tips. Does anyone know 1) if it's a direct bolt on to the 15 GT, and 2) if there would be any issues with parking sensors?

I think its a direct Bolt on if you get all the parts. Not sure about the sensors however.

If you are talking about the cross traffic sensors they are bolted to the body not the bumper. if you are referring to the backup sensors I do not know if they are the same, but I would bet they are.

There is another thread on here - can’t recall which, but someone had said the 2018 rear cover has a mounting screw now at each upper corner for apparently securing it better.

Also, I don’t think you can get a 2018 rear bumper cover without the parking sensors, I’m pretty certain those are a standard item now on the 2018’s (some people don’t like the look of (4) sensors visible on the cover).

It will most likely mount, but there’s minor differences between the 2015-2017 and the 2018 rear covers. Also to note, the replacement cost for a 2018 rear cover is more than the previous models as well (both the bumper cover and the lower black valance). So be prepared for possible out of pocket expense if your Ins. Co. won’t cover the delta).

The 2015-2017 & 2018 both utilize the same mounting screws (4 at the lower wheel wells and 2 at the upper corners where it meets the quarter panel). The swap is a direct fit for those looking to go to a quad exhaust setup without using the Roush valance.

Hmmm...I wonder what is different. My informal survey of dealer lots and pictures online seems to hold that at least 1:4 (maybe more) 2015-2017 have significant gaps on the top corner between the bumper and 1/4 panel, while I just looked this weekend at 2018s and there were zero gaps (about 20 cars).

There seems to be improved fit and finish on the 2018+ cars in general.

Lazy subscribe to keep up on this, as it's a mod I am planning for our '17 GT.

Does anyone know if the '18 dual tip valance will bolt onto a '15-'17 bumper cover?

We have the parking sensors, so that's not an issue.

The 2018 bumpers also have 2 additional 7mm long screws, one in each corner of the taillights which pulls the bumper into better alignment fyi.
Those screws can either be omitted or added into a 15-17 using revised bumper mounting clips most likely.

If those screws are omitted, do you know if the 18 bumper will then just fit as a 15-17 bumper would have, or would there be extra slack?

Also, forgive my ignorance, but are these parts shipped from Ford painted, or does the body shop paint them? If ford sells them painted, I'm guessing they won't make the 18 bumper in Comp Orange, so this may be a moot point for me anyway.

Ford does not ship painted parts.

Not sure - have not test fitted bumpers side by side for a fitment comparison. A ford engineer would know best.

All bumpers are shipped black primed. Thats why you see a lot of POS cars with flat black bumpers - too cheap to have the body shop spray them to match the metal panels...

Bumping this to the top. Has anyone figured out if you can just purchase the '18 bumper/valence for a '17? Or do you also have to purchase additional mounting clips.
