Today, I have exchanged a few emails with Jeff @ Whipple and he understands the issue with the Flare 3.0 for Mac. He is going to let the MicroMotive guys know so they can fix the app.
I used the Windows Flare 3.0 app to load the new tune into my 2017, manual trans. I first 'opened' the original tune file and did a restore. This should have put the OEM tune back on the car. Then I opened the new tune file and did a program. This should have saved the OEM stock tune into the new flare tune file as well as update the car.
Here are my observations in a 20 mile test drive:
* Car is WAY, WAY more stock-like drivable in 1st and 2nd gear while in Normal mode. The original Whipple tune was a bit herky, jerky in normal mode so I had been driving almost exclusively in Sport mode. I had to use launch control to reduce 1st by 15% and 2nd by 10%. Now I have it set to 1st -5% and full power in all other gears!
* There is less of the gurggling when depressing the clutch. Seems like it was cut down 50% or so. Do the Whipple tunes add an electronic auto-blipper?? I am suspecting so, both tunes seemed to do that.
* 80MPH 5th gear roll-on, the hesistation or surging is GREATLY reduced!! Almost none existent, ALMOST...
* 80MPH 6th gear roll-on, the surging is still there but again, greatly reduced. On my 2nd roll-on test, I downshifted to 5th as I went WOT and there was no surge, the car was like a rocket.
* In all roll-on tests, the needle went from 80 to 100 uber quick. Faster than my butt dyno felt the car was accelerating.
I never got a CEL and the car has started quickly, so I did not do a crank relearn, per Whipple post from last night. It purrs nice and smooth. Maybe even smoother than before.
So for now, much improved for a problem I am not sure I ever had.
