Oil cooler failure - first hand experiences?

I have the perfect solution don’t drive hard, don’t go over 3k rpm. If you’re worried about heat or buy something to get rid of this POS solution ford has.

First thing I did was remove this heap of shit off my car by using street fighter solution.
Now I do t have to worry about oil coolant mix.

People dig into your pockets this is a losing battle.

Our belief is from the following observations;

1) The RHD Mustang oil coolers are positioned in a hot environment under the LH bank exhaust manifolds. This is not an ideal position as there is extremely hot air circulating this area with limited airflow circulating the cooler.
This differs from the original LHD Mustang position where the oil cooler is mounted more suitably directly under the oil filter. This LHD cooler is also manufactured differently and seems more robust in design and is located ideally for proper cooling.
Unfortunately due to the left to right conversion there was limited room under the oil filter , therefore for RHD Mustangs it was redesigned and mounted in its current non ideal position.

2) The standard RHD oil cooler is made of an extremely thin heat transferring aluminium material. This is normal oil cooler construction as its job is to transfer heat from the oil to the passing coolant.
However we believe that the construction of the cooler for its non ideal positioning is not robust enough.

We can only assume that the failures may be either a weak design that is prone to failure or a combination of both design and non ideal location.

Just took my 2017 GT in for 3 month first inspection. I asked them to check the oil cooler and they said that my VIN was included in the maintenance alert and it will need to be replaced.

The part is on order. No ETA

Have you had a look at ford.owner.com or Ford Au and checked if there is anything loaded on there against your vin no ?
also be interested if you can find out where the dealership got their info from

Couldn't see anything on the Ford Australia website under my profile/VIN.

Details on the service report is as follows;

- Checked condition of oil cooler. All ok
- Checked TSB (Technical Service Bulletin)
- Requires new oil cooler
- Oil cooler ordered
- Customer to receive text message when in stock

That’s interesting considering the ford Aus spokes person said it affected 2016 build cars !?

No, that's not what they said.
The statement I read in the Press was "that the majority affected are 2016"

This article says "Ford says the majority of affected models were built in 2016"

So if your oil cooler currently seems ok at time of your service maybe the dealer has misinterpreted the TSB or he is very generous and pro-active. Be interested to learn of Ford Aus's attitude when he bills them for seemingly unnecessary warranty work
Seems like a potential legal precedent here shaping up?

Please get the part number of your replacement oil cooler when it gets installed. Particularly the letter at the end of the part number. In the TSB the replacement part number ends in D (ie; GR3Z-6A642-D). In August 2016 (prior to the TSB) the available part number ended in C. I read this in the UK forum.

My car is 05/16 build so I approached my service dept last year to see if I can get the oil cooler changed before it failed... the answer was Ford would not replace under warranty it if it hasn't failed. (I guessed this would be the answer)
