I would be just as concerned with a new automatic too. How do you know there will not be issues?

I say buy the trasmission that you enjoy the most and are most comfortable with. Whether that is an auto or manual.

I think the MT-82 isn't as bad as the "internet" says. I guess I got lucky, but my MT-82 has been good from day 1 (2016 GT). No grinding, gear nibble, or other issues I've read about. My opinion is that it's a solid nice feeling transmission. My only complaint is that it's built in China. Bad Ford, Bad! Keep our Mustangs 'Merican!

I know the 2015 MT-82 had some upgrades vs the 5th Gen Mustang MT-82. The 2018 changes to the MT-82 include: twin-disc clutch, dual mass flywheel, and improved synchronizers.

Time will tell on the new Dual Mass Flywheel. Dual Mass Flywheels can be a weak link and a source of issues on some performance vehicles, especially if they are tuned.

Mine was never too bad, but was made hugely better with BG Syncroshift II, and with an MGW shifting it, it's fantastic. Great shifting.

Went with BG Syncroshift II and a Steeda shifter, big improvement. Never had any issues before adding the two, but I'm glad I made the changes.

...My last 2011 Mustang was one of the ones with numerous clutch issues, and grinding issues. When I finally got it fixed from ford for the third time, I sold it.....
Was the transmission replaced 3 times? Or did you take it in 3 times for them to look at it?

It's been a while since, but from what I remember I got the fluid TSB done. The 2nd to third and sometimes 4th to 5th shifts were still bad. Like, grind em' to find em' bad. Took it back, they worked on the clutch. I think that was the visit on the drive home on the interstate the clutch went to the floor and nothing. Had to have it towed back. They replaced the clutch. Sometime later the car started acting up again and they replaced the transmission. After that I really didn't drive the car that much anymore and when I moved I sold it instead of paying the stupid Georgia TAVT taxes on it.

Might have to consider this one as one of my next things I do.

Similar to the clutch spring, read the over and over and over "I wish I'd done this sooner, hype is real" in this thread:

I did a fluid swap in my 2013 FR-S because it had a major issue in the cold from 1st-2nd gear shifts, sometimes needing a double clutch to shift to second. Swapped to some Motul Gear 500 transmission fluid and it became easily one of the best mods I did. Amazing what fluid can do.

I like the revised ratios. They are much better for driving the car outside just a straight line. I know drag racing-type of performance out of these muscle/sports cars is probably the most popular type of motorsporting, but the new ratios aid towards a better driver experience, not having to rush through three to four gears every single stop light. I know when I went from 3.73 to 3.31 in my 2012 GT, the general driving experience, among road course and autocross driving, was so much nicer - gears were actually usable.

I think the 2018 6spd is damn smooth. Night and day difference from my 2008 GT.
